How many times have you tried to get into shape? How many times have you attempted to mold your body into the shape you have always wanted? The majority of Americans, who try to get in shape this year, will fail. Many of these people have tried before, and are no strangers to this failure. They eventually get discouraged and will give up all hope of ever attaining their goals.

There are numerous reasons for failure, but a common misconception is that dedication is the reason people fail. This is simply not true. It most certainly plays a factor, however this really isn’t the reason. Simply wanting something to happen more than anything else in the world will not actually make it happen. The main reason that people fail is a simple lack of information. The majority of Americans believe ridiculous things, like doing massive amounts of sit ups and curls will get you cut abs and huge biceps, but this is not the case.

The fact is that if you only do these things, you are setting yourself up for failure and possibly injury! If you do these exercises exclusively, you will certainly accomplish something, but not what you set out to do. You need to balance everything; otherwise it will take forever to see results.

Here are some tips on how you will actually see results

1. Low fat foods are definitely your friend. Stay away from the fried types.

2. Drinking plenty of water, at least 8 glasses of 64 ounces daily

3. Exercise regularly

4. When you do exercise, you need to do a lot more cardio than you think

5. Sleeping a normal amount. This is when your body recovers from your working out!

You might be amount the select few who these things are obvious to, but if you are then your probably wont be reading this as you are already in great shape. Most people trying to get into shape don’t even know these tips exist, let alone their power over the body. If your trying to see results, then you should put these things into your daily routine.

If you think its time to eliminate the flab, and destroy your bulging stomach, then make today the first step down the road to weight loss. You can and will loose weight, as long as you are properly informed about your diet and exercise.

Can I Really Gain Muscle Without Gaining Fat?

Gaining muscle and losing fat are the wishes in the minds of most people who want to become fitter, but can these two things go hand in hand?

Building muscle mass is going to require you to take in a surplus of calories because, well, let’s face it, you can’t build muscle out of nothing (unless of course you have some chemical help going on). Losing fat mass on the other hand is going to require you to be in a negative calorie balance because that is what will get your body burning off additional body fat as fuel for its tissues.

Trying to do these things at once is rather counterproductive, and will generally tend not to get you the results that you require.

Most weight lifters will have to accept some fat gain when they are looking to gain weight, however how much fat gain they need to add is questionable. It is this variable that we are hoping to influence.

So can you really gain weight without getting fat? When adding muscle mass there are two approaches you can take…

The first idea is generally this…that the more food goes in…the more muscle goes on!

This thinking is heavily flawed. The body can only assimilate so much muscle tissue at once and after it has done so, any remaining calories are simply going to be stored as body fat. Plain and simple. You my friend, are no exception to the rule.

Most people begin their mission to ‘bulk up’ by increasing their calorie intake, some taking in five thousand plus, on a daily basis. And this over a period of, say, three to six months. This is far too much, and will result in a large amount of body fat weight.

A better option is to take in just enough calories to give you the muscle development without the whopping increase in body fat.

So that leads us to the next question you’re probably wondering. How much muscle can you build? How many calories over maintenance should you be eating?

Everyone has seen the ads showing the poor little guy who made good, piling on over 20 pounds worth of muscle in six weeks. It is possible, under extreme conditions where he has the best trainer in the world and genetics that Schwartzenegger would kill for, but generally you can expect things to happen rather more slowly.

The best rate of muscle growth is relatively small. A rate of half to one pound of new muscle every week is sufficient for you to get fitter in a more natural and healthy manner. As you can now see, you don’t have any need to up your calorie intake to crazy levels.

The more calories you take in then the more likelihood there is of gaining body fat. The best way to keep a check on your progress is to start by raising your calorie intake by 250 to 500 calories, above your normal, each day. Check out your appearance regularly and if you spot that extra weight coming on as fat, then drop your calorie intake down a touch, until you get it right for you.

It is always best to go by REAL WORLD results since you are in the real world after all. You can read as much as you like as to how many calories you should be eating, but this does not mean that’s going to be the exact number that will produce results? Different people have different metabolisms that will respond to an increase in calories in various ways. So as you go about your bulk, adjust according to the results you are getting.

Just keep in mind that if you take it slowly with the muscle building, you won’t have to put in time to diet away that excess body fat that you received as a free gift. Let’s face it - dieting isn’t fun for anyone!

Weight Loss: Control Yourself When it Comes To Takeout Menus

If you are watching your weight and sometimes are tempted to “cheat”, it is easy to see why. With the way advertisements are geared it’s no wonder there is an obesity epidemic in the United States today.

The ads can seem almost seductive and make it very difficult to stick to our diets. One suggestive ad for a candy bar or sweet treat can leave our mouths watering and the pedal to the metal as we make tracks to the store to buy it.

It may seem like the only answer to this situation is to stay away from fast food and not watch television commercials for the rest of your life, but that’s not realistic. There are some other ways to keep your willpower intact when you do go to places that have tempting images of diet-killing foods.

What you see isn′t really what you get - Keep this in mind. How often have we seen the image of the perfectly thick hamburger and ordered it - only to find that what you get is a smashed up mess? The temptation is in the perfection. Think not of the image, but what it will really look like when you get it. Most of the temptation will be gone.

Get it your way - Don′t be afraid to ask for what you want or don′t want. If you decide you need a burger, then order it with no cheese or mayo as an open-faced sandwich. A regular hamburger can satisfy your hunger and will have less fat.

If you use the drive-through, chances are you won′t be as tempted as you are if you go inside. There are sights, sounds and smells that act as a mental stimulation and encourage us to sit and gorge on food. If we drive through and come home and eat, chances are we probably aren′t going to even eat everything we bought.

Drive throughs are also helpful when the smell of the fries boiling in oil tempts you to order the biggest size available. When you go through the drive through, the smell isn′t as apparent as it is inside.

You can also save yourself the extra temptation by using a delivery service. You only order what you want and aren′t tempted to veer towards something else. You only get so much food to and you can′t go back again and again.

If we can take little extra precautions we may avoid putting yourself in a position in which we could be tempted to cheat. It’s not easy to ignore all the food and goodies that we see thrown at us on a daily basis. It’s hard to be on a diet, but the all the hard work is worth it when you stick to your plan.

Acupuncture and Weight Loss: A Combination that Works!

Could there be a more controversial issue in the diet community than acupuncture and weight loss? Americans alone spend over 33 billion dollars a year on weight loss programs and products. With the failure rate so high, is it any wonder that people are searching for healthy alternatives to common diets? With no side effects and no chance for addiction, acupuncture is becoming increasingly popular.

While used extensively in Korea and Japan, China is generally looked upon as the authority in this field. Acupuncture uses long, thin, stainless steel needles, which are inserted into over 2,000 pressure points in the body. Acupuncture as a medical procedure began over 2,000 years ago, but its popularity in mainstream society is relatively new. A 2002 National Health Review Survey stated that 8.2 million Americans reported using acupuncture treatments.

So, what about this relationship between acupuncture and weight loss? Supporters believe that acupuncture is beneficial for losing weight because it increases the patient’s energy, making them want to exercise. It also lessens muscular pain, allowing the individual to continue with their workouts. Generally, it improves circulation, reduces stress, (and therefore cravings), and it increases metabolism.

One really exciting point is that Chinese researchers report that those who use acupuncture and weight loss are twice as successful as those who diet alone. In addition to all the other wonderful health benefits, acupuncture is also known to lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

Ear stapling has given acupuncture and weight loss some recent negative publicity. Developed in the United States, this procedure pinpoints two pressure points in the ear, using a staple. The staple remains in the ear for a period of time, but sometimes dislodges itself or becomes infected, causing health problems. One would want to consult a certified acupuncturist before trying this procedure.

Little or no discomfort is associated with acupuncture. Some patients describe a feeling of being energized, a warming effect, or a calming sensation. Obviously results would depend on the targeted pressure points as well as the individual receiving the treatment.

So, are you ready to try acupuncture? If so, follow these simple guidelines to help you be more successful. First of all, check with your doctor before trying anything new. Find a reputable, certified acupuncturist. Decrease your caloric intake and choose highly nutritious foods. Increase your daily activity by adding cardio, strength training, and stretching to your workout schedule. Stay focused and positive, and be patient!
