Eating Disorders - Binge Eating Is Increasing
Only the last few years have medical professionals actually begun to recognize that binge eating is another eating disorder. Yes we are all pretty familiar with anorexia and bulumia because of the noteriety they have gained because famous people are always admitting they suffered from them. But where as with bulimia once the food has been eaten the person will then try different ways of purging it from their body as soon as possible. However with binge eating rather than not eating enough or trying to expel it from their body a person will eat loads and so it is a completely different kind of eating disorder altogether.
For this reason, alone many people do not actually consider this to be an actual eating disorder. Rather what they see it as is a person’s own choice of what they do with the food they eat and their bodies.
Yet even though when bingeing and person is not either starving themselves or placing their health under serious risk through the use of laxatives or from vomiting. This particular eating disorder can still cause serious repercussions where a person’s health is concerned.
For those who chose to binge eat they will not only be placing considerable amounts of strain on their body including the digestive system. But they also place considerable amounts of strain on to their heart as well. Where as with those who are bulimic or anorexic someone who binges is more prone to gain weight rather than lose it and will just be as unhealthy as those that suffer from the other eating disorders mentioned here.
One of the biggest problems that those that binge eaters have is actually recognizing that they have a problem in the first place. In many cases a binge eater will hide the problem by either eating more food in secret or by consuming far more food than they should really. The reason why they do this is simply because they feel they have control over their life and the situation they are in.
With most eating disorders the biggest challenge that sufferers of these will have to face is actually admitting to themselves that they have a problem in the first place. They try to ignore the problem because they do not want to admit that they do not have any control over their life.
We all eat a little more than normal at some stage especially during the Christmas and holiday periods, but this is considered to be quite normal. However for a binge eater the problem they have is that they will have no control over preventing themselves from eating too much on a very regular basis.
Although health problems such as weight gain are relatively minor when it comes to binge eating. It is the psychological problems, which are the more worrying side effect associated with this particular eating disorder. In fact in many cases those that binge eat will often dismiss the problem as nothing more than a habit they have got into or it part of whom they are and something they have chosen for themselves.
