One question raised in relation to weight loss is how long it will take to achieve. There are some information that you will need to collect in relation to your body’s composition which can help to determine just how long it is going to take you to lose weight.

The first thing you need to determine is just how much of your body weight is made up of lean body mass (bones and muscle) and how much of it is made up of body fat. In order to calculate your body fat percentage, you need to take a number of measurements.

For men, they need to not only weigh themselves but they also need to measure the circumference of their waist. As for women, along with weighing themselves there are several other measurements that they need to take in order to calculate out how much body fat they have. They need to measure the circumference of their waist, hips, wrist and forearm.

There are numerous sites online that explain the way to calculate the percentage of fat or else you can use sites where you just input the measurements taken and they will then calculate this figure for you. As soon as you know your body’s fat percentage, you can work out how long it will take you to burn that off.

First off, before you can determine how long it is going to take you to lose the weight, you need to determine what weight it is you want to reach. As soon as you know the weight you want to be, you deduct this amount from what you weigh currently. Say for example you wanted to weigh 203 lbs and you weighed 220 lbs then you will need to lose 17 lbs.

If you then calculate that on average you can expect to lose just 1 lb each week whilst on your weight loss program, then it will take around 17 weeks for you to reach your weight loss goal. But remember when calculating how long it is going to take you to lose weight you need to remember that you are trying to burn off the fat but keep the muscle.

The diet and exercise regime you use should be one that ensures that this occurs. Setting a goal of losing just 1 lb a week will help you to do so safely without having to resort to dire methods such as starving yourself.

The problem when it comes to weight loss and how long it takes to achieve the desired goals will also depend upon a person′s determination and will power to stick with the new dietary and exercise regime. Many people also tend to give up if they don′t see any physical changes in the first couple of weeks.
