Depression Help - Make Just This One Change
Some types of depression are considered “biochemical.” These types of depression are caused by internal biochemistry being out of balance. To help with the depression and fix the biochemical imbalance, doctors usually prescribe anti-depressants drugs, and within a few weeks people start feeling better.
Since our internal biochemistry is affecting our well being, then we can all easily see that what we eat affects depression and how we feel. For example, we′ve probably all eaten a lot of junk food at some point and started feeling bad. Food directly affects our biochemistry.
One of the major culprits with depression is sugar. Common table sugar can be a major depressant. It can affect your mood, your attitude and your energy levels. Most people have no idea that sugar can cause major mood swings, but it does. So if you are feeling depressed, or have really black moods on a regular basis, it might well be due to sugar.
Just remove sugar from your diet for a week and see if you feel any different. See if it provided you wity any depression help. I did, and the change was remarkable. I felt more energy and more positive. And after just two days I had no more black, dark mood swings. I discovered for myself that blood sugar levels affect mood. There is a book available at amazon.com called Sugar Blues that talks about this extensively.
And, you dont have to give up sweets, just refined sugar. Your local health food store has several alternatives that will sweeten your food without causing sugar blues. Substitutes like agave nectar, stevia and fructose are handled differently by the body and will not generally affect your energy levels and moods in the same way.
So even if you don′t have dark mood swings or feel other depression symptoms, you can give up refind sugar for a week and test this out for yourself. If you absolutely can′t envision giving up the white stuff for a week, then you can try a different form of this test that takes only half a day.
For breakfast, eat a few doughnuts and nothing else! Don′t drink any coffee or soda or have any caffeine (masks the effects of sugar), don′t eat any protein (draws the blood sugar spike out over a longer period) with your doughnuts. Notice how your body feels within the hour. If you haven′t pumped yourself up with caffeine, you’ll likely see that you feel good for about half an hour and then you start to feel sleepy and irritable as your blood sugar spikes up then down.
We each have different biochemistries, so the way you handle sugar may be different than your peers. But the blood sugar swings caused by sugar are well documented and are not intellectual or theoretical. If you want to try some natural depression help, this is a great place to start. The proof lies as close as the nearest Krispy Creme. There is no guarantee that your or a loved ones feelings of depression are caused by sugar, but common table sugar is a major culprit in depression for many people.
