Increase Your Self Esteem In 5 Steps And Stop Hating Your Body
You may have low self-esteem because you feel like you do not measure up. You may feel ugly, unattractive, overweight, or simply hate your body. You are not alone in these feelings.
The media does not help in your quest for bodily perfection, as you and I are bombarded with images of beautiful, perfect and air-brushed people on a daily basis.
I am sure you also know that these images are all photographed, air-brushed, and perfectly orchestrated and do not depict your reality or the reality of others. It can sometimes be hard to remember, however, that these images are designed to play on our emotions as we are, after all, consumers.
If you are dieting excessively, spending thousands on your hair, makeup, clothing, or plastic surgery, you may be under the false belief that your looks are determining your self-esteem. This could not be further from the truth, as your self-esteem is based on how you feel about who you are inside.
Comparing yourself to others, especially those in Hollywood will not give you a good self-esteem. If you base your self-esteem on your looks, and on these comparisons, you will continue to suffer from low self-esteem.
The following are five tips to help have a better body image and increase your low self-esteem:
Accept the fact that you may not look like a model with a tiny waste and long blond hair. Accept this as being okay, and realize that you can have an exciting, fulfilling life without looking like this. You do not have to look like Barbie to be happy.
Always focus on those beautiful and fabulous traits that you were naturally born with with. Do not say that you do not have any positive traits. Even if you like your long pretty fingers, keep this in mind as something that you love about yourself.
Remember, self-esteem cannot be based on how you look. It has to be based on how you value yourself as a person for who you are inside. Looks will fade, however, you will keep becoming the best person you can be over time. Just like a fine wine!
Try to focus on your own unique creative skills and talents and build these to the best of your ability. If you love playing the piano, study with a good teacher and become the best musician you can be. This will give you a tremendous boost to your self-esteem.
It is hoped that the tips given above have been helpful in giving you some awareness about self-esteem and body image. It is also hoped that you can use some of these tools to build your low self-esteem and start feeling better about yourself. Best of luck to you!
