Tips For Using Sunscreen
Sunblock is used by many people to help prevent sun burn and skin cancer. However, if you do not have the correct sunblock or use your sunblock incorrectly you will not prevent sun burn or skin cancer. Using these helpful tips, you can avoid sunburn and protect yourself against skin caner.
Tip #1 Sunscreens with a SPF of 30 Or Higher Should Be Used
SPF 30 provides a defense from sun burn and skin cancer. It takes 300 minutes to get sunburned with SPF 30 assuming your skin gets burned in 10 minutes of sunlight. SPF 15 will offer sun protection for 150 minutes
Tip #2 Make Sure To Use A Broad Spectrum Sun Block
The sun has both UVA and UVB rays. Broad spectrum sunscreen offers protection from both of these types of rays. UVA rays are present when there is no sun. This ray can lead to skin cancer. UVB is present when there is sun. UVB may cause sun burn and skin cancer if your skin is not covered with sunblock.
Tip #3 Sunbock Needs To Be Applied Frequently To Offer Proper Protection
Sunblock is made less effective over time in water. This even happens to water proof sunblock. Apply sunblock liberally and often if you are close to water. Once time per hour should be the minimum. Use the sunblock day after day.
Tip #4 Apply sunblock while resting in the shade or away from the sun.
This is because UVA rays are present even when there is no direct sun light.
Tip #5 Oxybenzone should not be in your sunscreen.
A possible contributing factor to skin cancer is the ingredient Oxybenzone. Sunblock that has the ingredient Zinc Oxide or Titanium Oxide should be considered instead.
Tip #6 Get New Sunblock Every Year
Most sun screen do not protect as well after 12 months because the ingredients start to lose the amount of sun protection that they can give.
Tip #7 Take Some Time Off At 12:00PM
Midday or peak sun is also a good time to get out of the sun and take a break indoors. The sun is strongest at this point. The sun is strongest between 12:00PM and 3:00PM.
Tip #8 Sun Glasses, Tight Shirts and Hats Need To Be Warn
Sunglasses with UV protection protect your eyes, a hat will defend your scalp from the sun rays and a tight shirt will block the sun rays from your body.
Tip #9 Be Extra Careful When Going To The Beach
Sand and water reflect sunlight more intensely. Sunblock needs to be reapplied more often than usual when going to the beach. Sunlight intensity also increases at higher altitudes.
Tip #10 Keep Your Body Hydrated With Water
Your skin stays hydrated and the defense of your sunscreen increases if you drink plenty of water.
