The Building Blocks of Naturopahty
Naturopathy is not a new field of medicine. It actually relates to an ancient human impulse toward health, focuses on our instincts, and draws from our intuition in opening the door to health.
We have become accustomed to thinking that health is about deprivation and sacrifice when in fact health is in all of us. It is a naturopath’s goal to help you realize your healths fullest potential.
Traditional medicine is constantly seeking the next cure or super drug whereas naturopathy is a guide helping you to return to the basic elements of whole body wellness.
Contradictory to allopathic principles that it is best to suppress symptoms and the expression of disease, Thomas Sydenham (English physician of the 1600’s) stated that symptoms actually represent out bodies attempt to shake off disease.
Naturopathy and natural health began to find its way from Europe to the US in the early 20th century. It was the creation of like minded practitioners sharing their findings and collaborating with one another to create a new approach to health.
Although exercise is a vital element to achieving health, the naturopathic approach to exercise is more about learning to stretch and develop healthy posture. Proper nutrition choices are also important but not as important as drinking a sufficient amount of water.
Fasting is another element incorporated into the naturopath’s approach to health. The advice is to essentially take is easy when fasting. Do not over work but rather take time to truly rest and focus on your breath as a means to heal the body.
Ultimately, it is a naturopaths goal to help you think differently about your approach to health and wellness, whatever that may be for you. It is their job to take into account your personal situation and tailor a plan that will work for you, as an individual.
