Cause of Spider Veins: Is It Really Alarming?

Human species are truly vain. They do really put effort and time to make sure that they look and feel good about themselves. And why not? This is one way to develop self-confidence and self-reliance. It seems like the world is definitely their center stage.

Spider veins, however, can take that away from you. Not only will you be able to wear your skimpy shorts and skirts or get rid of concealers, you will always have to think of what other people are going to say about those red ugly lines on your legs.

If you are looking for the ultimate cause of spider veins, then you are going to end up with zilch. Until now nobody can give you a straight answer to that. But then again, perhaps it will make things a little bit easier for you to know that there are a couple of factors that may lead to spider veins:

1. Heredity. According to studies, there are more women who develop spider veins than men. These are females who have mothers and female relatives who also possess such condition. This may be because weak vein valves are known to be inherited. Hereditary spider veins can be used to determine who can possibly develop the condition within your family and what probable age.

2. Hormones. The different changes in hormones occurring in both male and female bodies can be another cause of spider veins. For example, when a woman becomes pregnant or during menstruation, the female sex hormones like progesterone and estrogen fluctuates. This causes the vein walls and valves in the legs and the pelvis to become soft. They thus become prone to enlargement as well as stretching due to increased pressure.

3. Injury. There are some people who develop spider veins only when they have undergone an injury or an accident. Normally, when a person gets bruised, the veins under the surface of the skin breaks and results to pooled blood. This leads to inflammation which can result to enlarged veins.

4. Prolonged sitting and standing. Being in these conditions can place extreme pressure on your legs, which can facilitate the development of leg veins. In any of these cases, the muscles in the calf remain inactive and thus cannot assist in pushing the blood back to the heart. This adds pressure to the vein walls.

Are you exhibiting even just one cause of spider veins? If you are, then you should know that it doesn’t mean the end of the world for you. It can still be prevented or even cured. You can lose that extra weight or talk to a cosmetic surgeon who can tell you the right procedure that fits your condition.

We may not be aware of it but most of us tend to eat more acid-forming food and much less alkalizing food. Dairy products, meats, and other foods high in fat are just some of the foods that we can be too careless about eating. As you may notice, even most children do not like vegetables. However, it’s never too late to start gaining optimum health. Being on an alkaline diet is highly beneficial, and even more for those of us suffering from acid reflux. This article will talk about what alkaline is, what alkaline food to eat with acid reflux and why it works in treating the condition.

What Does Alkaline Mean?

Any food rich in alkaline has a pH level of over 7.0. On the other hand, anything that is acidic has a pH level of below 7.0. Foods vary in nutritional value, but also vary by pH level. There are many foods that are alkaline as well as acidic. Depending on your specific needs, you may need more alkaline foods in your diet, but generally, everyone needs more alkaline foods for better health.

Why Do We Need More Alkaline Foods?

Over-acidity in the body can cause a myriad of health conditions, which is why we sometimes need something to counteract the excess acids. For those of us who suffer from acid reflux, we are even in a worse situation because we′re often already predisposed to having more acid in the stomach than needed.

Certain positions or activities may trigger acid reflux, but it is mainly what we eat that makes symptoms worse. Since acid reflux mainly involves acid traveling from the stomach to the esophagus, we need to keep acid levels down by eating less acidic or non-acid-forming foods.

Is There An Alkaline Diet?

Alkaline diet recommendations can be found online. An alkaline diet basically means having meal plans that mainly incorporate alkaline food. Often times, alkaline diets will require you to eat lots of fresh fruits, vegetables, vegetable roots, nuts and legumes. Of course, everyone has different tastes in different dishes, so you may benefit from researching on recipes that cater more to your liking. You may also visit a dietician or nutritionist to discuss your preferences in a special diet.

What Are The Alkaline Foods I Can Use?

There are several alkaline-rich food you can take when you have acid reflux. There is a wide range of fruits and vegetables that are alkaline. You may have grapes, bananas, blackberries, apples, strawberries, melons, cauliflower, celery, beets, radishes, eggplants, and spinach in your special diet. As you can see, a lot of these alkaline fruits are delicious and fun to snack on. There is also a myriad of vegetables you can eat as a side dish.

This diet is not just limited to fruits and vegetables. Alkaline properties can also be found in other foods high in protein. Foods that contain alkalizing protein include fermented tofu, almonds, chestnuts, whey protein powder and tempeh.

You may first need a list of alkaline food to eat with acid reflux, but will no longer need one once you’ve been on the alkaline diet for a long time. The alkaline diet is fairly simple to follow once you’re used to using alkaline ingredients while cooking.

Would You Benefit From A Massage

Should you pay for a massage, or are you just wasting your money. Some people may say why pay just to have your back rubbed. But if your masseur is well trained, then there are hugh benefits to be had by having a massage. Unless you have a sports injury it doesn’t matter what type of massage you have as the benefits are very similar with all of them.

So what exactly are these benefits? and are they worth paying for? Massage as a health care model is fairly new to the Western world, although has been practiced in many Eastern cultures for thousands of years. The ancient Egyptians, Greeks, Romans and Chinese, to name a few, used massage as part of their healing tradition.

Massage therapy was often prescribed as part of a treatment in traditional medicine. It would have been given with advice on diet, exercise and maybe even medicines that were to be taken internally.

In the West a variety of massage techniques are used incorporating the traditional techniques of the Middle and Far East. Over the last couple of centuries western massage has evolved and some new techniques have been incorporated into more traditional massage therapies. Gradually scientists proved the efficiency of massage and over the years main stream medicine has become more accepting of its benefits.

If asked the majority of people would tell you that massage is used to relax you, but I have to say that it does far more than that. Although saying that the benefits are similar for every type of massage, each method does bring their own unique technique to create healing in the body.

It is important to get used to listening to your body, we are all individuals and are changing all of the time. Maybe you have tried massage and thought that it was ok but didn’t find any real benefit, then maybe it was the wrong type of massage for you at the moment.

Do you know how to relax? I mean really relax so that all of the tension goes out of your muscles, if you meditate you will know the kind of relaxation I am talking about. In the modern world we live in stress comes at us from every direction, from our jobs (or lack of), from our families and friends and just from the manic pace of life most of us live at. Our stress is unlike our ancestors, whose stress came in short bursts, ours is continous day in and day out.

Today’s stressful world causes you a great deal of harm, there is a hectic pace of life, where you may feel you must be doing something all the time, this takes a toll on you both mentally and physically. You may often feel exhausted, but feel you have to carry on for fear of loosing your job to someone else.

Environmental pollution in the air, and chemicals in your food puts toxins into your body, putting even greater strain on your body. Fortunately, a good massage works to help the body get rid of toxins and allows the body to relax, taking tension out of the tight muscles.

On the physical level a good massage will leave you feeling invigorated, when you have finished your massage you may feel as if you are walking on air.

Your blood circulation will be improved when you have a massage, and there will be an increase of flow of the lymphatic fluid throughout your body. Toxins in the cells can impede the correct working of those cells and when this happens disease can follow, a regular massage can help prevent this.

When you have a massage there is a lot of physical manipulation of the muscles, this can reduce stiffness, release tension and increase mobility. Due to the nature of this physical manipulation, massage is very good as part of your regular exercise regimine, as it can help in the prevention of muscle injury.

Many scientific studies confirm that massage therapy can:

Reduce heart rate.

Lower blood pressure (if high).

Increase blood circulation and lymphatic flow.

Stimulates weak and inactive muscles to compensate for lack of movement due to an illness or an injury, stiffened and tense muscles are also relaxed.

Increases endorphins.

Reduce anxiety and tension.

This list is very impressive, but I am sure over the next few years the scientists will find even more benefits of massage.

The type of treatment offered by skilled masseurs combines healing techniques which work with the natural healing powers of your body to bring about wholeness to your mind, body and spirit.

Of course, it is recommended that anyone with any severe condition or chronic pain should consult with a licensed medical professional before embarking on a massage. Also any well trained massage therapist will be able to tell you if it is wise for you to have a massage or not.

Be Eco-Friendly, Be Smarter

Unless you live off the grid in a remote area (and if so, you′re probably not reading this anyway), you no doubt hear a lot about the need to reduce our carbon footprint and to live a greener life. It’s important and almost everyone will acknowledge this, but it can feel like you′re being lectured at times.

However, there are some easy ways to live a greener life. Curbside recycling is in place in most cities, where you can simply place your recyclables out with your trash for pickup (in a separate container, of course). It’s easy to separate your plastic, aluminum and other recyclable materials. The recycling pickup service takes care of the rest - all you have to do is to take it outside!

There are many things you can do to cut down on driving. Try to do everything in one trip if possible. You will save money, cut down on traffic, and reduce emissions into the environment. Driving is stressful and stress is not good for you so less driving means less stress. Ride with someone or use public transportation if you can. You can ride a bike or walk in some cases and it will also give you some healthy exercise.

You can substitute some of your household items for more green friendly items. One such item is compact fluorescent light bulbs. These bulbs are much more energy efficient, which means that they use a lot less energy (and save you money) while being about the same price as any other light bulbs - they also last much longer than traditional incandescent bulbs.

You can use solar lights in your yard - these lights work just as well as electric lights, but cost nothing to operate and conserve the use of electricity. There are many appealing designs available and they can fit into anyone’s budget. You don’t need to have an electrician install them and the lights are quite bright enough to illuminate your yard. You can even get solar holiday lights, adding a cheerful seasonal touch without adding a thing to your electric bill.

Do some recycling, cans, bottles, plastic, and anything they will take will save you money and help the environment. You may even get a little money back if you have aluminum cans. Use your own bags when shopping instead of the plastic ones they have at the store. Some stores even offer discounts for doing this. Every little bit helps and perhaps will encourage others to do the same.

It’s actually pretty easy to live a greener lifestyle. You can benefit the environment and your pocketbook at the same time. You may soon find yourself looking for more ways to add a little more green to your life.
