Contact lenses are a great way to look cool and at the same time view everything clearly. Contact lenses have been made to rectify vision problems and is now the most preferred form of treatment for the condition. But at the same time it is also becoming a craze among people with normal vision. With colored contact lenses, theatrical contact lenses, crazy contact lenses and the like being available in the market, more and more people are using contact lenses just for the heck of it.

The origin of contact lenses goes way back to the 1500’s. Leonardo da Vinci, the great scientist, sculptor, painter, and in short an extraordinary man, envisaged the contact lens in the year 1508. To his audience, he sketched and portrayed various types and forms of contact lenses, which he said would set right vision difficulties. The next document fact about contact lenses took place in 1632 when Rene Descartes of France envisioned the contact lens that could be placed on the cornea. In 1823, a British astronomer, by the name of Sir John Herschel, began experiments and suggested ways of creating a contact lens that could be placed in the eye. It was in 1887, that the first ever-contact lens was manufactured. A German named Muller manufactured it and he could wear the contact lens only for a short period of time. Sir John Herschel’s ideas inspired a Swiss physiologist, by the name of Fick, to come up with contact lenses made of glass. Though the lens was able to correct vision, it was difficult to wear as it was made of glass. In 1939, the Americans made the first contact lens created out of plastic. In the year 1948, contact lenses ware made to cover the cornea only. Earlier makes used to cover the whole eye. In 1971, the soft contact lenses were born and later in 1978, the rigid gas permeable lenses were created.

The technology is still being studied and efforts are being made to provide a solution, which is not only comfortable but also reliable.

Theatrical Contact Lenses

In days of yore, people could see vivid types of eyes only in movies, but nowadays with the availability of theatrical contact lenses, crazy contact lenses, etc, everybody can utilize them and scare people, get noticed etc. These lenses are available with logos of your favorite team and you can wear them to cheer them. You can wear really scary and crazy contact lenses and frighten people at Halloween. Theatrical contact lenses can be worn by anyone and is available for people who need vision correction and for people who do not need any vision correction. However, even if you do not need any vision correction, a prescription from an eye doctor is required to acquire the lenses in the United States.

While these contact lenses are made for the purpose of fun, it is advised to take proper care of the lenses. No two persons should use the same theatrical contact lenses as it could prove harmful to the eyes and the chances of infection is also high. The cleaning process of theatrical and crazy contact lenses is the same as the normal contact lenses. You need to keep your theatrical and crazy contact lenses in the solution provided by your eye physician. It is advised not to sleep with your theatrical contact lenses on, as the risk of damage to the eye is high. It is also never recommended to go for a swim with contact lenses on as the lens could be washed away or lost. It is always recommended to buy theatrical contact lenses from a registered dealer, as they will fit you with contact lens that fit your eye cornea properly. It is advised to always take extra care of your contact lenses.

Various other brands are also available in the market but the famous ones are the ones mentioned earlier. Theatrical lenses are available in many designs and colors. You can experiment with the way your eyes look by inserting theatrical contact lenses. Gone are the days when you wanted to have eyes like a cat and could not because theatrical contact lenses were available only for persons involved in theatre. Now your eyes can look like a cat by just inserting a theatrical contact lens known as Cat Eye. Cat eye is yellow in color and has a black streak, which passes off as the pupil. Let us now look at what your can do to your eyes using theatrical contact lenses. The following are proving to be a craze among the masses:

Colored Contacts Without a doubt, the most popular theatrical lenses are also the simplest. These contacts just change the color of your eyes and are tremendously popular among young people in particular who enjoy testing new eye colors.

These colored contacts tend to work best with light colored eyes (blue, grey, green, etc.) but there are also versions created specifically for darker eyes that need more pigment. You can use common eye colors, like blue or green or you can try something a little creepier, perhaps red or yellow. A fun way to use colored lenses is to wear just one at a time, leaving the other eye natural.

Evil Eyes If you want something a little more sinister than just the eye color change, look for lenses that change the shape of your pupil. This can be a fun way to amp up the fear factor. These types of contacts come with vertical slit pupils, like a cat eye. You can usually buy them in a variety of colors, with red and yellow being the most common. These lenses need to be put in just so, however, to ensure that the pupil is facing the right way.

Party On If you hit the dance floor on a regular basis, then black light eyes are a must have. They glow in the black light and create a very interesting effect for parties and raves. These are still fairly new, but already extremely popular and in demand.

Movie Effects With movies like Twilight being so popular, vampire contacts and wolf lenses are all the rage. Vampire contacts are usually red, but allow for the pupil in the center, while a wolf eye is animal like and brown with streaks. These aren`t the only movie effect lenses you can get, though. Look for your favorite horror movie brought to life in your eyes with contacts that mimic the effects from movies like Hellraiser, Tempest and Jeepers Creepers.

There are plenty of options to turn you into the monster of your dreams.

White While these could technically be labeled as colored lenses, the fact is that white contact lenses actually cover up any existing color and make your eyes a fun white color, essentially eliminating the color. This type of contact lens is particularly popular if you are into zombies and want the blank, undead look.

Pictures While not quite as common as colored contact lenses, these fun lenses are found everywhere just the same. They come with images of everything from spiders, roaches or skulls on them to flowers, smiley faces and swirls you just can′t get that look with glasses.

Having a picture in your eye can be a fun way to grab people`s attention and the variety of images available means that each person can choose the style that suits their personality.

Special effects contact lenses can be a fun way to change your look . . . subtly or in a rather obvious manner. They are also ideal for costume parties and Halloween when you need those special vampire eyes. The price tag can be a little high, especially if you are going for handpainted, so keep that in mind when buying for a special occasion.

These lenses aren`t meant for long term use usually, so you`ll need to take them out and clean them as you would with regular contacts before using again. With proper care, specialty lenses can last up to 4-5 months.

Are Bifocal Contacts For You?

First off, if you’re under the age of 40 you can stop reading now. BiFocals are not for you. starting at age 40, many require assistance in seeing things up close. Yes, that means you.

For everyone else who is wearing reading glasses, bifocals, or just plain struggling to read the newspaper (or this article for that matter), bifocal contact lenses are an exciting option with some new advances, but they definitely aren’t for everyone.

First, but make us play two very important details. Will we discussed bifocal contact lens fittings, I’m not only referring to troop bifocal contact lenses, but also monovision lenses ( one lens for distance only in one lens for near only), in any conceivable combination of bifocal and monovision lenses. So, I’m really only talking about soft contact lenses.

Though not a requirement, these are a few things that may make you a great candidate for bifocal contact lenses: A strong desire to stop wearing glasses, being closer to age 40 than age 60, prior experience with contact lenses, longtime glasses use, a willingness to accept vision that isn’t quite perfect in exchange for adequate vision at all distances, and you must understand that reading glasses may still be required from time to time for small print or in poor lighting conditions.

Signs you might not be the best candidate: very dry eyes, having an eye that doesn’t seem very well even with the best correction, an intense fear of touching your eyes, high amounts of astigmatism, and the need for crystal clear vision.

Here are just a few things to consider before trying on any type of bifocal contact lens. 1) bifocal contact lenses will not provide as clear a vision as bifocal eyeglasses. 2) each person adjust to bifocal contact lenses differently, therefore it may take several fittings with vastly different lens combinations before finding the best option for you.

The reason those two points are true is because bifocal contact lenses do not work in the same way as bifocal glasses. With bifocal glasses both eyes look through the distance portion of the glasses to see far away and both eyes look through the near portion of the glasses to see up close. With glasses, both eyes are always perfectly focused for whatever distance they are viewing. This is not possible with soft contact lenses - you cannot look through just one part of the lens at a time. Therefore, with contact lenses part of your vision is ALWAYS focused at a distance and part of your vision is ALWAYS focused up close. When you are looking at a distance your brain learns to concentrate on the part of your vision that is focused at a distance and block out the part that is focused up close, and vice versa when you look up close. Because part of your vision is always focused at the wrong location bifocal contacts cannot be as perfect as bifocal glasses. And because it is the brain that interprets what we see through bifocal contacts, every person experiences bifocal contacts differently and therefore the same type of fitting does not work for all people.

So what is the biggest factor in deciding whether someone will be successfully fit with bifocal contact lenses? Choosing the right doctor is a major factor. You want a doctor that understands how the different lenses work, a doctor must know what changes to make based upon your input, they must be patient, and should set the right expectations through educating you. While this can be a challenge, it’s not impossible with the right doctor.

Contact a local eye doctor for your specific requirements with bifocal contact lenses and to see if bifocal contact lenses are right for you.

What are the Most Popular Types of Designer Frames?

Eyeglasses used to be a burden to people. They were not very stylish, they felt like they weighed a ton, and they were extremely large in size. Unfortunately, those individuals could do nothing about it because they needed the glasses to see. There were children trying to get out of wearing their glasses, but they would have to wear them while they did their studies. At the same time they were humiliated as the other kids called them “Four Eyes” and “Geek.”

Times are definitely not like that. Billions of people have to have their vision corrected. Usually, they correct their vision with eyeglasses first and will move to contact lenses later. Fortunately, though, more and more people are finding satisfaction with their eyeglasses. This is great for those who may not be able to wear contact lenses. The advent of designer frames has made wearing eyeglasses a lot more bearable.

Popular types of designer frames

There are many types of popular designer frames. They come in all different shapes and sizes. They also come in many different colours. It just more or less depends on your eye colour, your hair colour, and the shape of your face. But no matter what your physical features are, you?re going to find a designer frame that will take care of you.

Each manufacturer has their own unique style and it is that unique style that reels people in. One person may like Tommy Hilfiger, while the other person may like Calvin Klein because of the style.

The different types of designer frames out there include: Coach, Valentino, Ralph Lauren, Dolce Gabanna, Oakley, Gucci, Prada, Versace, Chanel, Dior, and many more. These are the individuals that are responsible for the rectangle designs that offer up a little bit of flair. For those needing a more round frame, perhaps a frame by Coach will get the job done. You can usually distinguish the different brands by looking at them if you’re familiar with their styles.

The purchase

You have so many options when it comes to purchasing designer frames. You also have several buying options. You can always buy from your optometrist or a dispensary. Then again, you can purchase your desired designer frame on the Internet. This means you’re going to have a lot more to choose from. You’re not limited to the inventory of your optometrist or dispensary. Just make sure you are familiar with what frame shapes and colours look good on you. You definitely don’t want to get something that is going to look terrible.

Then there is the fact that your prescription is going to determine what looks good on you. Those who require extremely thick lenses may not do well with a rimless or half-rim frame. So that is something else to keep in mind.

Most importantly, having so many buying options allows you to compare your prices. You can find the best frame and the best deal for you. You do, however, need to make sure you’re able to have your prescription placed within the frame. It doesn’t do any good to have a designer frame if you cannot use it to see out of. There is also the fact that you may find so many great deals that you decide to buy several different frames. Maybe one day you’re in a certain mood and you choose your frame for that day. That’s a good way to mix it up because, let’s face it, designer glasses are now a fashion statement. They’re not a burden anymore. Perhaps that is why more and more people are making the decision to wear their eyeglasses over their contact lenses.

Contact Lens Cleaning Solutions: Everything You Need to Know

Trying to choose a contact lens cleaning solution can be a little intimidating. If you take a look at the dozens of different types and hundreds of brand names available, it`s pretty confusing at first. Knowing just what each type of fluid is for will help you make your choices. Your optometrist can also provide useful information on selecting the right cleaning solution for your particular contact lenses.

The first thing you need to know about selecting a cleaning liquid is to choose one that is formulated for the type of contact lenses that you use. If you have soft lenses, be sure to buy only cleansers that are meant for soft contacts and vice versa for hard ones. By regularly cleaning your lenses, you`ll end up being able to use them longer and they will work better, without irritating your eyes.

Multi-Purpose Cleaners These are the easiest types of cleaners to use. You only need one solution to do all the tasks, soften the lens, remove deposits, cleanse and disinfect. The only thing you have to do once the lenses have soaked is rinse them in saline solution before putting them into your eyes. It`s very simple, but not always as effective as using multi-step procedures with a different solution for each process.

Multi-purpose cleaners can be used for most of the cleaning that you do, but if you want the occasional deep clean, then you might want to do a multi-step cleansing.

Saline Saline solution is pretty much the same as your tears, so this liquid is ideal for soaking contact lenses in when they aren`t in your eyes. The liquid keeps them supple and hydrated and won`t irritate your eyes later on. Saline is also useful for rinsing harsher chemicals off the lenses so you won`t end up with stinging eyes later on. Contact lenses do tend to dry out when left out of saline, so be sure to always have some on hand.

Hydrogen Peroxide Cleaners You are probably familiar with hydrogen peroxide from your medicine cabinet. It is also used in some types of contact lens cleaners to help eliminate grime and mineral deposits on the lenses. Hydrogen peroxide cleansers must be carefully stored and, while they do work very well for cleaning, the chemical can also cause intense discomfort in the eye, so be sure to rinse very well before using your contacts after cleaning them with a hydrogen based product.

Enzymatic Cleansers With any extended use contact lenses, protein from your eyes will begin to build up on them. This can cause problems if left, particularly diminished vision and later, possible scratches and infections in the eye, so it`s important to get rid of these deposits. Enzymes in enzymatic cleaners work to destroy any protein deposits and leave the lenses nice and clean. This type of cleaner is usually in tablet form and is not needed on a daily basis. Once a week or so, drop a tablet into the liquid that the contacts are soaking in and leave overnight to get rid of everything. In the morning, the lenses will be ready to be used again after rinsing.

Since contact lenses are in contact with your eyes most of the time you are awake, it`s vital that they be maintained in a clean, sterile manner. Improperly cleaned lenses are the cause of many eye infections and these can range from a minor inconvenience to actually causing blindness. As you can see, it`s certainly worth maintaining a careful cleaning schedule and using the proper contact lens solutions for the job.
