When the Glass is One Tenth Full

Do you focus on the positive even when there’s much less than half of it there?

When you have a choice, it’s usually better to tell people what they can do rather than can′t. Here are three examples:

I read an e-book titled, “The Top Ten Secrets of Instant Wealth” by Salad Seminars CEO Jamie Smart. I probably wouldn′t have noticed an e-book like that but I’ve recently acquired two sets of Salad playing flash cards.

Jamie talks about asking better questions for wealth. Instead of seeing something and saying, “I can′t afford it,” he suggests asking, “How can I afford it?” The glass being half full significantly affects your attitude as it will with your audience.

The second example is that I sometimes see marketers bad mouth “hypnotic techniques.” Here’s a quote from an article in the Early to Rise e-zine (July 31st Issue):

“Don′t try to be a copywriter. Just explain what you’ve got and why anyone should care - and then just get out of the way.

“In other words, don′t mess around with mystical, manipulative tactics that are supposed to magically vacuum money out of your prospects’ wallets while they grin stupidly in a hypnotic trance.

“Just talk to people. Be interesting. Be respectful of their time. Share value. Make your pitch. And shut up.”

No doubt the point the author was trying to make was to avoid the mistake of sounding like you’re trying too hard or using hype. He’s telling you to do exactly what a copywriter does while starting by telling you not to try to be a copywriter.

The one tenth part of this is that the writer must not know how to use hypnotic language patterns well. That just means there’s more opportunity for those of us that do.

This post was prompted this last example. I went to see a movie at our IMAX last week. The theater is inside a state history museum. While everyone was waiting in line, one of the museum employees made an announcement with an interesting one tenth full twist.

He announces that food and drinks will be allowed in the theater as long as they were water with screw top bottles and candy bars still sealed in their wrappers. There’s no doubt that this approach was better received than telling people that no food or drinks were allowed except bottled water.

It reminds me of the saying attributed to Henry Ford that you could have any color of Model-T car as long as it was black.

I don′t know how many people noticed the approach at the museum but I found it humorous. That was actually much less than one tenth full but you get the point… be affirmative as much as possible for best results.

Three Secrets to Weight Loss

In case you were wondering, there actually is a secret to weight loss and don’t you want to know that it is! Factually speaking it is all about common sense with a little bit of determination and a whole lot of perseverance. We will discuss these three areas how that can be applied to a weight loss program.

Common Sense: Common sense tells you that you should not be eating that large order of French fries, or that extra big piece of chocolate cake. Then who listens to common sense when those hunger pangs, and cravings are taking over. It is easy for someone to sit by the sidelines and say you just are not exercising any will power. Especially since most of these people do not have a weight problem.

It is also very easy for others to stand in judgment and blame others of not being able to exercise will power when it comes to delicious food hovering around. However, these are the ones without a weight problem.

From now on for whatever bad food you eat get yourself a helping of a dish of good food. Try to eat a portion of your healthy food before you eat the junk food. Let u say that you like to eat apples and you have a chocolate just waiting to be consumed, first eat your apple then the piece of cake. It will further help eat half the serving of cake. You should continue this practice steadily increasing the quantity of healthy food in you daily diet. Now, don’t expect to make progress in your weight loss program just yet, this is just changing your eating habits.

Perseverance: Perseverance is a technique, or rather a quality, that will cultivate healthy eating habits in you. This really means that every single time you fail you start all over again. Eventually you will only eat healthy foods never even thinking of all the junk food in the world. It is also very possible that when you have practiced perseverance for a few days your weight loss will have started taking effect.

Believing In Yourself: It is also very important for an individual suffering from obesity to have a high level of self esteem. This is the process of believing in oneself. A lot of overweight individuals begin to have pity on themselves and this leads to over eating or incessant eating habits. Eating as everyone knows it is what leads to being overweight. Self pity is the exact opposite of believing on oneself and this is something that needs to be cultivated. Overweight people need to concentrate only on the brighter side of their character and the stronger points of their personalities and stop blaming themselves all the time if they want to successfully lose weight.

Be unstoppable with Amazing Levels of Self Esteem

We change our opinion of ourselves constantly, both positively and negatively. Self esteem can be measured on a daily basis as to whether we are going through periods of positivity or negativity. The aim of our lives is to build more positive than negative events, so our self esteem is kept at consistently high l

Family forms a large part of self esteem. When we feel loved and valued by family, whether that be parents, siblings or partners we carry out our lives with that feeling of love inside us and tend to perform better in life. It is also more consistent. We are able to take lifes inevitable knocks and failures when we have a good self belief inside of us which is gained from a young age. This is why it is often said a stable family life gives people a better future.

If you are unfortunate enough to have had a tougher upbringing you may be more prone to swings in how you feel about yourself, because those challenging times can make you more fragile when it comes to how you feel about yourself. People with low self esteem are more likely to move into crime or rebellious behaviour. At moments where you feel angry you have felt a deep sense of anger at the world. If you feel you are worthy and respected, this sense of injustice is replaced by ambition and drive to achieve more.

To increase our self esteem we should focus on what areas of our life we are particularly successful in. For instance, if you are a respected footballer, this may be the area of life you focus on when you need to feel better or you need a quick injection of confidence. Do not fall into the trap of not valuing what you do well, simply use it regardless of what it is to feel better and increase your self esteem. Then you can try new things and hopefully find a talent you never knew existed.

In business, self esteem is often exuded in amazing quantities by individuals with drive and ambition. This level of self esteem is often not genuine because there is little these people can point to in order to justify these high levels of confidence. Confidence is not the same as self esteem, because the confidence is something that can be faked. Whilst you can cover up your levels of self esteem, deep within you there will be a knowledge of your real level of self worth.

In young people self esteem fluctuates wildly during their teenage years. Self worth and self respect can be a very complicated issue for these young people. Young girls in particular are often plagued with doubt about themselves, and the opinion which other people hold about themselves. One of their parents biggest challenges is that they must work out if the exterior presentation of their children is a honest representation of what they feel inside.

Self esteem is complicated because you can feel successful and confident about one area of your life whilst totally at sea in other. What is important is that you focus your attention on staying positive and working on those areas that need attention, so you are always moving forward and not allowing the negative feelings to take over and cause unhappiness to take a hold of you. Always remember that you ultimately have a choice about what you feel and what you think about.

We are basically trying to find you levels of confidence and self worth that allows you to feel happier and better. Lifes challenges and negative events are inevitable but how you handle it is your choice. Reaching your potential demands a good level of self esteem, belief, drive and ambition. There is no room for self doubt. Concentrating on building self esteem is not an empty exercise. It may be the first step in what turns out to be a path of success and achievement for you.

You may have low self-esteem because you feel like you do not measure up. You may feel ugly, unattractive, overweight, or simply hate your body. You are not alone in these feelings.

The media does not help in your quest for bodily perfection, as you and I are bombarded with images of beautiful, perfect and air-brushed people on a daily basis.

I am sure you also know that these images are all photographed, air-brushed, and perfectly orchestrated and do not depict your reality or the reality of others. It can sometimes be hard to remember, however, that these images are designed to play on our emotions as we are, after all, consumers.

If you are dieting excessively, spending thousands on your hair, makeup, clothing, or plastic surgery, you may be under the false belief that your looks are determining your self-esteem. This could not be further from the truth, as your self-esteem is based on how you feel about who you are inside.

Comparing yourself to others, especially those in Hollywood will not give you a good self-esteem. If you base your self-esteem on your looks, and on these comparisons, you will continue to suffer from low self-esteem.

The following are five tips to help have a better body image and increase your low self-esteem:

Accept the fact that you may not look like a model with a tiny waste and long blond hair. Accept this as being okay, and realize that you can have an exciting, fulfilling life without looking like this. You do not have to look like Barbie to be happy.

Always focus on those beautiful and fabulous traits that you were naturally born with with. Do not say that you do not have any positive traits. Even if you like your long pretty fingers, keep this in mind as something that you love about yourself.

Remember, self-esteem cannot be based on how you look. It has to be based on how you value yourself as a person for who you are inside. Looks will fade, however, you will keep becoming the best person you can be over time. Just like a fine wine!

Try to focus on your own unique creative skills and talents and build these to the best of your ability. If you love playing the piano, study with a good teacher and become the best musician you can be. This will give you a tremendous boost to your self-esteem.

It is hoped that the tips given above have been helpful in giving you some awareness about self-esteem and body image. It is also hoped that you can use some of these tools to build your low self-esteem and start feeling better about yourself. Best of luck to you!
