Stopping a panic attack after it’s started is not an easy task. Mostly, you have to ride it out, stay calm, and lean on your experience. Certain drugs can provide immediate relief, but they usually have some severe side effects. So the question is, what types of panic attack remedies truly work? Here are some real ones that do.

First, there’s exercise? Countless studies have shown that regular exercise has a positive effect on the number and severity of panic attacks. It makes perfect sense too when you think about it. When we exercise, we feel better about ourselves. And when we feel better about ourselves we’re much more able to take on the challenges we face every day. So think about including exercise as a way of helping to control your anxiety.

Watch your caffeine and alcohol intake. These are drugs in their own right and they can have serious effects on your mood. Too much coffee for instance can put you right on the edge of a panic attack. Alcohol too can set your mood spinning. So be careful with these or any other substances that may adversely affect your mood.

Add some natural remedies to your daily diet. There are many non-drug substances available at health food stores that have calming and healing effects, especially herbal teas. Everyone’s heard about Chamomile’s sedative properties, but other teas like Lemon Balm and Passion Flower have calming effects as well. Find one that you enjoy and relax over a cup once a day.

Take the time to learn a relaxation technique or two. For instance, there are simple yoga breathing exercises you can learn and perform just about anywhere. And they can have an immediate calming effect. Or you can spend more time and take a course on meditation and learn how to use guided imagery as a tool to control your stress.

Look at your own life a little more carefully and try to expand on the things that you enjoy. For example, let’s say you love listening to music. How about making a weekly date with yourself to put on some headphones and listen to your favorite CDs for an hour or two? That not only gives you a space to avoid stress, but it gives you something to look forward to when you’re in the middle of a stressful encounter.

Don’t be afraid to talk to someone about what’s going on in your life. Share your worries and concerns. You can talk to a friend or you can talk to a professional. Either way, you’ll benefit by opening up and letting go of the stress. It acts as sort of a safety valve for your emotions.

The best panic attack remedy is the one that works for you. In order to discover what that is, you’re going to have to take an active role and do some homework. Some techniques will work better than others, but your experience with each will teach you something and bring you closer to a solution. Remember, if you stick with it, things will get better.

Discovering What You Can Do About Your Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are usually blamed on the rapid expansion of the skin. Although this is true, the real culprit for causing stretch marks is the hormones called glucocorticoids. These are secreted by the adrenal glands, which lies on top of the kidneys and the production of this hormone is increased during pregnancy, adolescence, with obesity, weight lifting and Cushing′s disease.

Getting to the Cause - Cushing′s disease is said to be a result of a tumor in the adrenal gland which causes the gland to excessively produce cortisol, which will cause the person to gain weight and another symptom of this disease is the thinning of the skin. When you look at stretch marks under the microscope, you will see that the layer of the skin called the dermis is thinner than normal. That is why if someone is suffering from Cushing′s disease, the person will also develop stretch marks on the skin. There are actually two types of scars. The newer formed marks are red or purplish in color, while the more matured ones are commonly silver or white stretch marks.

Signs - In the early life of a stretch mark, it is often protruding and still reddish. If you have dark skin, you will not clearly see these marks but they are there. Then they turn purplish or bluish after a while and overtime they become flattened white stretch marks streaks because they already have aged. These unsightly marks will not occur if the dermis is strong.

Torn Tissues - The skin tissues will start to break only if collagen and elastin fibers are prevented from forming. If this happens, the dermis no longer has support and will consequently tear once it reaches its breaking limit. Stretch marks are usually seen on the different areas of the body like the buttocks, hips, breasts, abdomen, and thighs. In addition to tearing, the thinning and flattening of the dermis will also make these marks more visible on the skin.

Stretch Mark Treatment - Most people know what stretch marks look like but many are not familiar with the variety of treatments that can cure them. There are actually different methods to cure each specific phase of the scar. Laser light treatments are effective in removing newly formed scars. This method works by applying a controlled amount of laser beam on the affected are. This beam will break down scar tissues and once these tissues are gone, healthier skin cells and collagen start to develop in the vacated area.

Topical Cream - Some topical creams can also remove stretch marks but if it is stubborn and aged marks that you want to get rid of, you will need a more potent solution for this. There is one cream available in the market that works and penetrates into the middle layer of the skin and its natural ingredients work together to heal the torn tissues and stimulate the production of collagen and elastin.

Surgical Procedures - Microdermabrasion can also help remove stubborn and white stretch marks. This procedure uses tiny particles to sand the skin and slowly remove the scarred or discolored tissue. But the stretch marks will not be removed in just one sitting. You will need to go back for more sessions and the number of times will depend on the severity of your scars. However, the best cure for stretch marks is still prevention.

People are often misguidedly assured with their rigid workout schedules and training routines that they pay no attention to their diet. Some would claim that “It is OK to eat what you want as long as you burn them in activities in the gym”, Sorry to tell you that this is a great misstep in achieving that dream abs.

Yes, you burn fat during workout but the process of totally eliminating them in your system is through the help of balanced nutrition and with the right diet and food consumption, the workout overall will effect its magic on you. So, how to choose the best diet for your Ab Workout?

Eat more fiber

To ditch the fat and show off firm, beautiful abs, eat at least 25 grams of fiber daily. Fiber, which is the indigestible part of fruits, vegetables and whole-grain foods, helps you achieve flat abs. For best results, increase your fiber intake slowly over the course of one month and drink plenty of water to keep food moving through your system as quickly as possible.

Go for high-quality carbs

When you eat carbs, they break down into glucose, which is stored as glycogen in the muscles and liver. When glycogen is stored, it carries with it three times its own weight as water, compared to no water at all for protein and fat. If you eat an extremely high-carb diet, you may store excess water, experience bloating and gain temporary water weight. Remember to focus on balanced eating.

Water up!

Drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day. Beverages with little or no calories, caffeine or sodium, including herbal tea, are best. Avoid regular soft drinks and soups with lots of sodium. If you are eating plenty of water-rich foods such as fruits, vegetables and low-sodium soups, you can get half of your water requirements from foods.

Avoid carbonated drinks. Fizzy drinks, including soda pop and spritzers, increase bloating because the carbon dioxide trapped in the bubbles creates gas, which slows down stomach emptying.

Sodium Alert

Choose fresh, natural foods over fast, commercial or packaged foods. Instead of ordering french fries, have a baked potato. Instead of a pickle why not enjoy a fresh cucumber. Beware of cured meats and remember that soups are high in sodium; some canned varieties contain more than 1,100 milligrams per cup. Read labels carefully.

Sleep light

People who skipped breakfast or lunch and ate their largest meal later in the day has lower metabolisms. Eating light at night will reap double benefit: You’ll wake up with a light stomach, and you’ll also have a better appetite for a fiber-rich breakfast, which sets you up for a day of healthful eating. Eat five times a day. Your body needs food every three to four hours, so instead of eating three large meals, try to schedule five smaller, more frequent meals throughout the day.

Stress-Away!

Stress triggers the hormone cortisol to turn up your appetite and deposit fat around the organs in your abdomen. And that’s not all, it can trigger diabetes and cancer too so the best and commonly known anti-stress action for you to do is exercise.

A previous article has identified the importance of joint position sense and here we move on to considering the assessment of a deficit and what the physiotherapist is likely to do about it. The physio will very likely concentrate on the problems the patient has most commonly after trauma or illness, namely muscle weakness, loss of joint mobility and pain. Once these are responding to treatment the physiotherapist will consider whether proprioceptive treatment is required. Complete rehabilitation of the patient to their normal activities, whether sporting or functional, cannot occur without retraining the body’s nervous and joint systems to accurately receive, interpret and act on proprioceptive inputs.

Our arms are designed for one main function, to position our hands in a functional posture in front of our vision so we can see our activity and correct it. An effective and accurate feedback loop is necessary so we can assess the results of our efforts in real time and re-design our motor activities to get us closer to our goal. A major part of being human is being able to manipulate the world with our incredibly precise hands and detailed binocular vision. Understanding where our individual hand joints are at any one time is vital if we are going to use them effectively. Touch typing, which I am doing now, is a skill for which I must be certain where my hands are and where my fingers are going next.

To test the proprioception of the arm the physiotherapist asks the patient to shut their eyes and explains they are going to place the affected arm in a particular position. Then the patient is asked to place their unaffected arm in the same position as the affected one, mirroring the position as closely as they can. When a person with normal joint position sense performs this test they are able to mimic the position of the other arm very closely. The results will tell the physiotherapist whether the patient has any significant deficit in their ability to understand the position of their arm.

Proprioception in the legs and lower body is adapted for a different use than in the arms, lower body function being concentrated on bearing weight and walking. The disability from loss of proprioception in the legs can be very damaging as it affects independent mobility and balance. A good illustration of this problem is demonstrated by a multiple sclerosis patient I used to treat who had problems when it was dark.

My patient recounted a situation which has probably occurred to many of us: we go into a toilet and the light is already on but as we lock the door we turn the light off automatically. For us the solution is easy, we just turn the light on again. For him it was more difficult. Because he was denied the visual feedback he needed by the darkness he fell over. His nervous system could not accurately tell him where his legs were so he had no idea whether they were bent or straight and could do nothing to correct any change in their position.

Physiotherapy assessment of the joint position sense can be performed by practical physical tests. The same test as performed on the arms, mimicking the position of one limb by using the other, can be used by more typical tests are performed in weightbearing. Checking the patient’s gait can give valuable clues as to what deficiency in proprioception is present. If there is a less clear deficit testing can take the form of asking the patient to maintain their balance in steadily more difficult conditions. Feet together, balancing on one leg and then with the eyes shut is a possible progression.

Physiotherapy treatment to increase joint position sense includes steadily more challenging work for the limb whilst carefully watching with eyes. As the patient improves they are taught to rely more and more on the information flowing in from the ligaments, muscles and joints to correct their movements. Weight bearing through the joint can increase the position sense and this is used to progress the treatment, teaching the brain pathways to reinforce the patterns for coordinated movement. Continued improvement is possible by continuing the exercises given by the physiotherapist but there may be some long term restriction.

Kids - Warts in Kids

Nearly fifty percent of children acquire warts at some time or the other. Warts, in the real sense are benign tumors which develop when keratinocytes, a kind of skin cell, is infected by the wart virus. There are many types of warts, the most common being rough bumps which appear on fingers and hands. Others are flat warts, genital warts, plantar warts, and molluscum contagiosum. The difference is based on the types, location, and painfulness of the wart. Common warts appear on fingers and hands and usually are painless. Plantar warts appear on the soles and are sometimes painful. Periungal warts show up around the finger and toe nail. Warts which appear on the face are flat warts.

The symptoms of the common warts are that the skin develops an irregular surface and becomes rough. A dome starts to appear after a day after infection. A popular myth is that warts have roots, but they don′t. They grow on the epidermis, which is the top most layer of the skin. The black portion is because of broken veins and clotted blood.

Warts come and go at various stages of life like childhood and teenage years. They usually go away by themselves. But some can be very painful, can spread quickly and some of them wont go away for many years. Such kind of warts should definitely be treated. The most common treatment among the pediatricians is cryotherapy. They will freeze the warts using liquid nitrogen. Cantharidin can also be applied, which is a painless treatment but can result in painful blisters at the end of the day.

The minus point is that these treatments sometimes cause blistering and some warts won′t come off in one sitting. If the warts won′t still budge they are further treated with strong salicylic acid, intralesional immune-therapy, bleomycin, or a pulsed dye laser. Aldara can also be used in worst cases. Because of some treatments the warts grow to the end of the blister, which results in a bigger wart and some might even result in a scar.

Besides other common wart treatments, the most well-known home cure is duct tape. The affected area is covered with duct tape for about six days. If within that time period, the tape peels off, it should be reapplied. After the sixth day, the duct tape should be removed and the wart should be soaked in water and a pumice stone or emery board should be used to scrap the top skin of the wart. After this, the duct tape should be reapplied again within twenty four hours and the same procedure should be repeated until the whole wart disappears. This procedure takes at least two months to get rid of the wart completely. Some kids hesitate to place duct tape on parts which are visible, like fingers and legs. They can be encouraged by making them wear colored duct tape, other than grey. Many home wart freezing and removal kits are also acquirable in the market whose help can be taken.

It is contagious and hence it is recommended to stay away from it at the very sight of it. All the cuts, rashes and bites should be cleaned regularly and should be kept covered. Another measure for prevention is wearing closed shoes in public places.
