Beyond The Hype - Leigh Steinberg Is A Quality Human Being

Ive been following the 2009 Super Bowl progress for the last few weeks. In doing so, I read tons of player and team stats, articles on coaches and their philosophies and many other topical NFL discussions. While reading these articles on the net, I came across one blog, SportsAgentBlog.com where the writer interview Leigh Steinberg.

Leigh Steinberg was very well known for having been inspirational in the movie Jerry Maguire, starring Tom Cruise. He was the sports agent who represented some of the greatest names in NFL football history, like Joe Montana, Steve Young and Warren Moon.

After reading this blog, I have to say I really admire Leigh Steinberg for the many things that he has done to inspire athletes, encourage an industry, i.e. sports agencies, to be become more of a community of colleagues, and generally advance the safety of these athletes.

I was really impressed to learn how Mr. Steinberg is a caring individual, not just for the athletes that he represents but also in the way that he believes that athletes should represent themselves. He stresses the importance of the athlete in giving back by coming role models, especially since sports is such a revered activity here in America.

After reading the blog, I began to understand that Leigh Steinberg is a man of integrity. He also talked about his belief in ensuring the future for generations to come relative to global warming and caring for our planet. He also practiced what he preached, by working with companies to encourage “green” within the sport.

I always felt that athletes, especially the big name stars only cared about fame and fortune. In fact, that is one of the reasons I stopped watching for while. There are so many high profile athletes that you see in the news negotiable multiple, multiple million dollar contracts that it almost gives the wrong impression.

After reading the interview, I really felt that Mr. Steinberg is trying to make a difference in this industry of football and sports, in general. Money is one thing, but leaving a positive impact on society seems to be ones driving Leigh. In that regard, he’s also spearheading an effort to not just study but recommend methods to reduce the impact of concussions on athletes, similar to what confounded Steve Young in the 80s.

I also read with fascination the comments that Leigh Steinberg made regarding athletes and their propensity for voting democrat or republican. It never dawned on me to think about an athlete in that manner. And, why the majority of them choose one party over the other. But, it certainly makes sense, based on the Mr. Steinberg’s description.

This blog made me really understand Leigh Steinberg’s character. He’s a very caring and “loving” person in the sense that he wants his athletes to not only succeeed, but live a long, healthy life, as well as give back to society. He’s donated a great deal of money to charities and causes.

If you ever watched the movie, Jerry Maguire, you will want to read this blog. It truly humanizes Leigh Steinberg and puts into perspective how one man can really make an impact on our society.

The Glorious Garment

And now a question for the cool ages: can a T-shirt by any other name still smell as sweet? Am I odd? Am I obsessed, to a fault, with comfort? Have I gone off the deep end with my single-minded, heated obsession with the glorious, humble T-shirt? Perhaps. I have a problem, I can admit that. But if you grew up watching James Dean, Marlon Brando, and Monty Clift slouching about, screaming in the rain, and looking fragile, youd have a fixed obsession with this piece of clothing too.

In the entirety of human history, by which I mean the last 60 years, there are only a handful of iconic pieces of clothing. You can count them on one had ” maybe two. Theres the Schott biker jacket, Levis jeans, Members Only windbreakers, Converse All Stars, and then ” drum roll, please ” the glorious T. Now, Im sure some of you fashionistas could expand my list ” more power to you. You could twist my arm and add Doc Martens, pea coats, and even the trusty wing tip, but my aim here is to make it very clear how much I love the simplest of garments, this under-vest, this T-shirt.

A T-shirt is a very specific thing. Dont let the big guys fool you (read as Hanes or FTL) into thinking anything thats not a button-down Oxford qualifies as a training shirt. It doesnt. A tank top is just that ” not a T-shirt! A long-sleeved T-shirt is not a T-shirt its a knit shirt. Or something like that. There is no such thing as a short or long or collar T! Anything longer or shorter than the classic crew neck (I will give you the V neck) is something else.

By and large, a T-shirt is made out of cotton (sometimes polyester, sometimes both) that is knitted together with a jersey stitch, which gives this godly garment its distinct, unrivaled texture. Ah, the sweet relief of sliding on a fresh clean T ” you would be hard pressed to find such a singular sensation. I dare you! It is the ultimate in comfort, despite some formalists who decry the T as some kind of symbol of the degradation of the Western world. The fall of Rome, signified by the proliferation of the lowly T-shirt. Preposterous.

The T-shirt, my love, my life, also makes for what people in ad agencies call human billboards. Yes, the corporate grubs love to silkscreen their logos and slogans on finely knitted T-shirts, but lets not forget how the T can be the most powerful grass roots tool. All you need is a felt-tip pen (I suggest a Sharpie) and your Philosophy 101 book thats been collecting dust in the basement. Presto-bingo: instant slogan and social relevance. Hopefully. Cool T-shirts are whim away. Go get whimsical, and dont forget your training shirt!

The rhinestone has been around for many decades, but only in recent years has the popularity of rhinestones truly reached a new level. This milestone was achieved through their inexpensive nature, as well as their ability to be applied to everyday materials without any damaging effects.

One of the more recent trends in rhinestones is to apply them to mobile phones. Mobile phones usually have quite a bit of “simple” space to cover, so the artsy types are now applying rhinestones in different shapes and patterns to make a statement. Making things such as a heart, one’s own name, or a simple smiling face with rhinestones can do wonder for the appeal of a phone.

Expensive pairs of jeans are now sporting rhinestones for more attraction. Crafty consumers can save a heap of money by buying cheap pairs of jeans and putting the rhinestones on themselves. Rhinestones on jeans are a new trend, so it’s fun to jump on the bandwagon before everyone else has the same trend down. Do be sure to hinge the rhinestones onto the jeans to ensure they aren’t washed off, however, as glue-based rhinestones have been known to fall off after washing.

Musical instruments also have been known to become decorated with rhinestones. Guitars, drum kits, and even microphones sport the crystals. Even celebrities such as Elvis Presley have used the studded gyms to make musical instruments more attractive. Like jeans, musical instruments usually have a lot of space to cover and allow for much creativity as a result.

Shoes or sandals have seen their fair share of decorations too. Sandals are the most popular, as the thin straps that connect the pieces of the sandals are usually just wide enough to fit rhinestones on top of them. A sparkling set of sandals or shoes brings out the creativity of the owner, especially on bright days when the sparkle effect rhinestones give off is maximized. Like pants, special hinging may be required to keep the rhinestones on the footwear longterm.

The real fun in obtaining rhinestones is to think of all the ways they may be used. Electronics, room decorations, and hundreds of other possibilities present themselves in this scenario. Personalization with rhinestones has become so popular, in fact, that there are now special consumer-available machines that apply them to specific things such as jeans or shoes via glue or special hinging.

Final Thoughts

There is a lot of fun to be had with rhinestones and a few hours of creative thinking. To get a hold of a large amount of rhinestones, go online for ordering information. Some hobby shops may also have them in stock, so it’s worth checking local businesses as well.

Tamatori hime tattoos are Japanese designs that have become famous world wide. The name refers to an ancient Japanese legend involving Tamatori hime stealing from the dragon owning king of the underwater world. Hime stole the kings most prized possession ,a precious bead and then attempted to make her escape.

The imagery of the brave princess nearly giving her life rescuing the sacred bead is one,the dragon chasing and fighting her is another. These images can be combined or the two main characters can and often are shown as two separate entities.

Many will have the tattoo mainly or totally on the back as its the largest area that can be tattooed on. The tattoo often starts on the lower back and then can be spread over the back area. The dragon ,if included, can cover the whole of the tattoo or can be a main focus point.

It can also be a small and basic drawing or can be very detailed showing bone structure or flesh and scales. The detail depends on the wearers wishes and the abilities of the tattooist. Of course a basic design can be made more complicated if wished with more detail and more background added over a period of time.

They see the sacrifice she was willing to commit for the sake of the greater good, namely rescuing the bead and decide to make her immortal, princess hime. She then became the god for all the pearl divers and of course the focus for the Tamatori hime tattoos.

Similarly the princess Tamatori can vary in how she looks and how she is portrayed. She can be shown not moving and as a simple image or perhaps shown in action swimming or fighting. She could be worn to show courage and bravery, she could be worn to show empathy with her plight or simply to show agreement with her wisdom and subsequent saving by the gods.

With the princess comes the dragons and various other sea creatures beside. The wearer if using some of these aspects can show more of the story and can have more designs of nature, bravery and of a gallant fight between the human world and the mythical under sea world. The Japanese are famous for having intricate designs of tattoos that tell stories and have many recognisable features.

The wearer then has the chance to say much about themselves with these designs, taking aspects from the Tamatori hime tattoo theme and those of others beside. Taking aspects like wisdom and sacrifice from this legend and then blending it with other stories to say what the wearer wants to say about themselves.

As with all tattoos get plenty of research done in order to get the right design and very importantly the right tattooist to do the work. Sort out the design of the Tamatori hime tattoo design beforehand using magazines and on line, get it on paper and the get the work done. These designs look great as lower back tattoos and can often be seen in big cities.
