Limiting carbohydrates from ones diet has been a successful way to lose weight. Most people who struggle to lose weight have done so all their life. They try many gimicks some safe and some not so safe. Some people only have a few pounds to lose, some have up to 100 or more pounds to lose. Some people do if for medical reasons.

Ninety percent of the popluation in North America would like to lose weight. Most are on the search for the quickest and easies way to trim that excess weight. Some many only want to lose 5 pounds, others want to lose 20, 50, 100, 200 pounds and even more. Low carb diets seem to be becoming the “fashionable” way to lose weight in recent years. Many are getting stressed over losing their excess weight which in turn is making it harder and harder to achieve their weight loss goals. Other have medicle reasons to lose excess fat, and sometimes end up using dangerous methods such as diet pills, medical procedures, and restricting food intake.

There are many different diets out there including low carbohydrate diets and the truth is that most of them will achieve weight loss if they are followed correctly. This does not mean always doing what the diet says every moment of every day. What is more important is how you deal with the inevitable occasion when you eat too much or feast on foods that are not on the plan. If you can write this off and return to the plan without giving yourself a hard time, you are likely to succeed. Everybody has those days - the important thing is to let them go and accept them as just another step on the road to permanent weight loss.

To be successful with this diet, you need to understand food groups, which ones to eat and which ones to avoid. Carbohydrates come in many forms, breads, rice, pasta, potatoes, flour, sugar the list goes on. Fruit is often not allowed due to the sugar content. Meal planning is simple with the low carb diets. To some people eliminating all those carbs or comfort foods is difficult at first. No toast in the morning for breakfast, that beer after work, but now there is available low carb beer. Low carb dieting doesn`t have to be difficult. Most people create their own difficulties. Bottom line, know what you can have on the plan and stick to it. The nice thing to, by sticking to no carbs one loses cravings for sugar, and other sweet treats.

Phase 1: The Rev-Up

In the first four weeks of the Best Life Diet, focus on moving more and changing your eating patterns. Step on the scale to get your starting weight. Then, put it away! Next, get moving! This is what revs up your metabolism and burns calories. You will determine where you are on the activity scale. If you are already exercising regularly, boost it one level. Zero activity level, go up two levels and start formal workouts right after checking with your physician.

As for eating, you get to eat 3 regular meals and a snack every day. It is important to focus on breakfast because, as weird as it sounds, you get your body burning the calories for the day and it keeps you full until you can eat lunch. Eat this morning meal even if you don’t want to. Another perk here is the endorphins your brain will produce that up your pleasure and lower your pain awareness.

Things to follow on this phase:

* Stop drinking alcoholic beverages. You will increase this during latter phases.

* Have a glass of water at every meal.

* Starting taking a nutritional supplement, multiple vitamin with omega-3 and calcium included.

* No food 2 hours before bedtime.

Now at the end of this 1st phase, one month, get on the scale. If you’ve been losing more than 1 pound a week, stay put at this level for a few more weeks. If you didn’t see that kind of loss, move on to Phase 2.

Phase 2: The Switch

Here is where the weight really drops. Do this phase for at least 1 month also. There are six bad foods that you are going to throw out of your meals and add foods that will lower your hunger. Now you are weighing weekly. Be patient with the numbers, this is long term. If you have a few up weeks, look back over what routine you are on and see if you can tweak it to get moving again. Always use upping your exercise as a way to get back on track, plus the increased endorphins will help replace the comfort you got in the past from food.

Phase 3: Happily Ever After

Now you are ready to enter the healthy and full life you have always desired. Weight no longer a worry, there are a few areas here that can help to fine tune your food regimen to fit your life. As you are still progressing here, there will be a need to keep up the good eating and exercising habits. But with the success and relearning you have been doing, it is no longer work.

Maintain the changes you achieved in Phases 1 and 2, but add some “anything goes calories” - the foods you still hanker for. Everything you eliminated in Phase 2 is now allowable! Try to put “anything goes calories” toward “luxury foods” that are indulgent but still have something to offer, such as dark chocolate, full-fat cheese and yogurt, pizza with whole grain crust, or a glass of wine. Try to eat more good vegetables than any other food group. Keep eating two servings of fruit a day and whole grains instead of refined ones. As for sweets, eat fruit any time. Otherwise, continue to look at the packaging.

Getting to indulge in a few more of these extra calories may be one incentive to increase your activity level, which you should do again when you enter this phase. Exercise will help you maintain the weight loss you’ve achieved and allow you to eat more food without regaining. A plus is exercise also slows down the aging process. Weigh yourself no more than once a week and no less than once a month.
