Millions of people all over the world are affected by bipolar disorder. It is assumed that out of these millions, majority of them are adults. On the other hand, adolescents hold a significant percentage of those struggling with bipolar disorder and this adds a massive complexity to their lives. This is due to the fact that not only do they have to deal with the common struggles that every teenager goes through but they also have to contend with the serious symptoms of bipolar disease and adolescent bipolar disorder.

Outlining Bipolar Disorder

Severe mood swings are the usual reference given when mentioning bipolar disorder which was originally named manic-depressive disorder. The mood swings usually range from an elevated sense of euphoria (mania) to a severe low cycle of the depressive phase. Common knowledge of the euphoria phase is seen as a stage of excitement and minor anxiety whereas the depressive phase is seen as utter sadness or fatigue. In reality, both these phases are extremely serious and are known to affect energy levels, decision-making, cognitive functions, concentration, and other critical capabilities needed to carry out the essential functions of life.

While bipolar disorder is a serious psychiatric condition, it is not untreatable. Often, outpatient prescription therapy and counseling can help alleviate many of the negative effects of bipolar disease. However, this can be a challenge for adults. For adolescents, bipolar disorder brings further complexities.

The Onset of Bipolar Disease and Adolescent Bipolar Disorder

It is a fact that bipolar disorder starts developing in the late teen or early adult years in most people. Although it is rare for bipolar to develop in children and young teens, it is possible and has happened a lot. Early Onset Bipolar Disorder is what it’s called and the mood swings are more frequent because of the lack of emotional development in the adolescent.

How Can a Parent Detect Adolescent Bipolar Disease and Adolescent Bipolar Disorder?

Adolescents share many of the same symptoms that an adult will display. Noticeable symptoms common in both of them include lacking a clear attention span, severe mood swings, lethargy, extreme excitement and talkativeness, and displaying a very depressed or sad mood are all signs of the disorder.

Behavior at school can also be affected by these symptoms. Is your adolescent having trouble making and maintaining friends? Have their grades started to slip? And has he/she been involved in a few disciplinary incidents? These situations could indicate the possible presence of bipolar disorder.

Of course, a parent will not know for sure unless the adolescent is properly diagnosed by a qualified mental health professional. Usually, a board certified psychiatrist would be the most reliable source for a diagnosis. However, it is critical that parents do not make decisions as to whether or not an adolescent had a serious mental disorder. Doing so would only inhibit the youth from receiving the proper treatment.

Getting to Know Which Treatments Work

Combination of medical treatment and therapy is generally what treatment for bipolar involves. Prescribed medications such as anti-depressants, mood stabilizers, and anti-anxiety prescriptions are usually given. The treatment for adolescent bipolar may last for many years and will most likely be carried into adulthood. Regardless of this, the primary concern here is not the duration of the treatment. Patients should rather focus on utilizing their treatment to establish a normal life with the least amount of problems that come from the condition. For both adults and adolescents, this is true.

With the worrisome increase in food prices and even reports of food shortages, you may be wondering whether or not it would be a good idea for you to grow your own vegetables. It is something that anyone can do almost anywhere as long as they are ready to work hard.

Starting a vegetable garden isn’t difficult, but it will take some attention and time. By following some guidelines, however, you will soon be well on your way. If you have never had a vegetable garden before, you may find it easier to start on a small scale or even try container gardening. In this way, you can get used to how plants grow. You can also familiarize yourself with the amount of work you will need to do.

To be able to grow your own vegetables, you should locate your vegetable garden in an area that gets six to eight hours of direct sunlight each day. A spot near the house may be desireable, but consider any shade or trees that might block out the sun.

Your soil may play a big part in determining how difficult it is to make things grow in your vegetable garden. If you have poor soil, there are a number of ways to improve it. One way is to mix in some organic compost. You should do this at least two or three weeks before you begin planting.

The soil used in your vegetable garden must be able to provide the right drainage to keep your plants growing well. Retaining too much moisture in the soil and garden can cause your plants to be waterlogged and die. Digging ditches around the garden or installing an agricultural tile drain is a smart choice to enhance drainage.

Vegetable seeds can be purchased almost anywhere where you can buy the gardening tools you need. There are a number of catalogs and online stores where you can purchase a large variety of seeds, including heirloom seeds. If you want your garden to be successful and your plants plentiful than you want to buy proven stock.

Keep in mind where you would like to place each of your plants. If you place markers first, you will be able to make nice, straight rows. Be sure to place your plants at even intervals. Be careful not to put them too close together. You want them to have plenty of room to grow and thrive.

Relaxation Music And Meditation

There are several uses for relaxation music. Some enjoy relaxation music while eating dinner at home, or while going for a walk with the headphones on. Others prefer to listen to relaxation music while they are receiving a massage or practicing yoga, or about to fall asleep.

There are so many types of relaxation music that is difficult for some of us to make a decision about what type of relaxation music works best for us. However, there are reasons why some types of relaxation music are more relaxing than others.

While different types of relaxation music have more pronounced effectiveness than other types, nevertheless there is a specific type of relaxation music that stands out from the rest in the relaxation or meditation music genre. I am speaking about relaxation music that not includes soothing music or nature sounds, but brainwave altering binaural beats or isochronic tones as well.

Simply by listening to relaxation music embedded with either isochronic tones or binaural beats your brainwaves can be changed in such a way that you actually experience the benefits of the accompanying brainwave state that the binaural beats or isochronic tones help induce in you.

For example: Normally when we are awake and active during the day our brainwaves are at a beta brainwave level. If someone were to measure our brainwaves with an EEG device they would find that beta waves are the dominant frequency during busy anxious thinking. But if you listen to a relaxation cd or mѣ that is embedded with, for example, binaural beats that are programmed with a frequency of 7.83 hz, then your mind will fall from an active beta level of 22 hz to a very relaxed borderline alpha/theta level of 7.83 hz. Meditation accomplishes this, but it takes a lot more practice.

If you don’t have the time nor the inclination to meditate, then relaxation music embedded with either binaural beats or isochronic tones will give you the same relaxing states of consciousness as does meditation. The difference is this type of relaxation music will bring you to a relaxed state much faster than meditation.

It is worth noting that binaural beats and isochronic tones without some kind of soothing music mixed in can be kind of dull to listen to (although some brainwave enthusiasts prefer plain binaural beats or isochronic tones rather than music backed versions.)

People also have different tastes in music, and it comes down to matter of personal preference. But when it comes to binaural beats and isochronic tones it is more about therapy - a complete mental makeover. It all ties in with training one’s brain, and improving one’s life, by regularly listening to cd’s or mѣ’s embedded with binaural beats or isochronic tones. This is very similar to what regular meditation accomplishes, but much faster.

Teenagers and adults are the more common victims of bipolar even though this disorder affects people of any age group. Bipolar can be very hard to self-diagnose sometimes, especially due to the fact that the symptoms of bipolar disorders are very similar to those of a lot of other mental disorders. What makes this even harder for people to realize that what they are experiencing is already symptoms of bipolar is that there different types of bipolar.

The Depressive Episode

The depressive episode is one of the classic symptoms of bipolar disorder. The main feature of this episode is a decrease in pleasure, as well as a decrease in interest in the daily activities. This mood, when compared to the standard mood and routine of the individual, can be very different. When in that state, the person will feel like they are in a state of depression which is probable to occur with or without any causes at all. The mood can also be described as being in a state of sadness or emptiness. The person is often mistaken by thinking that they are acting this way because of other big problems. During this stage of the bipolar disorder, the impact on the persons occupational and social functioning can be negatively affected. Bipolar symptoms can last for days or even a couple of weeks depending on the severity of the disorder.

The appetite is affected and the person will most probably lose weight. Other classic symptoms are loss of energy, extreme fatigue, decrease in gross motor skill agitation and sleeplessness. Feelings of worthlessness and guilt can also be manifested, which can result in suicidal attempts and deaths.

Manic Phase

The person may be experiencing the manic phase if not in the depressive state. However, the symptoms displayed by the affected person are the total opposite of the depression state. Like the depressive episode, behaviors displayed here may also be of known or unknown causes. Symptoms, like the depression state as well, may last for days or weeks depending on the severity of the disorder.

The Mixed Period

The mixed period is a dangerous time. This is where the both bipolar symptoms, depressive episode and manic episode, manifest at the same time. This is considered more dangerous because it could last from a week to a couple of weeks. It can cause more social impairment in the daily functioning and work situations. When they both occur at the same time, it becomes more difficult to treat because of the unpredictable nature and behavior of the person with bipolar.

In most cases, the symptoms of bipolar are often confused with that of other health conditions and even substance abuse. This is why in most cases bipolar disorder is diagnosed at later stages. When this happens, the condition would have already worsened.

It is necessary to know bipolar disorder symptoms in order to treat the disorder once the symptoms are being identified. This type of a mental disorder can be very dangerous because it can lead to suicide and death. To prevent these from happening, it is advisable to visit a psychiatrist at once.
