You may be asking yourself “Why aren’t traditional diets - even nontraditional diets - working for me? Why can’t I keep the weight off once I lose it?” Through my experience as a certified hypnotherapist, I have found that the main reason why the diets have not helped you to create permanent weight loss changes is because you have not made a lifestyle change. Ok, so maybe you already understand that.

When changes are made in the subconscious mind where your long-term memories, beliefs and perceptions are stored, you in turn make changes to your thought process. Change your thoughts and you change your life! That’s right, and as a result, you can actually change your behaviors and your reactions easily with little to no conscious effort on your part.

“How can you do such a remarkable thing?” you may be asking. The answer is with hypnosis. A trained professional hypnotist can assist you in accessing your the powerful subconscious mind to help you make your desired changes.

The process of hypnosis by-passes what is called the critical factor, the “line” between the conscious mind and the subconscious mind. Your conscious mind is your analytical, judgmental and critical area of your brain. Although it needs to operate this way for survival purposes and decision-making, it can also trip us up, getting in the way of our own progress and improvement. The conscious mind acts upon the beliefs that have been imprinted in our subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is the emotional, imaginative center of our brain that also stores our long-term memories.

It is estimated that 75% of our beliefs about ourselves have been imprinted into our subconscious by the age of 7. Therefore, the majority of our personality is determined by the time we are 7. (That puts a whole new twist to “acting like a child” doesn’t it.) This knowledge is useful for hypnosis age regression. In a hypnotic state an individual can mentally journey back into their past safely and objectively and look at the framework of beliefs that were established at a young age and then move forward bit by bit to review what other beliefs were established based on the original beliefs.

Imagination is the “language” of the subconscious mind. It is very much like the mind of a young child. It creates through imagination and believes what it hears. The subconscious mind takes in whatever it has been given and the conscious mind acts upon it. As W. Clement Stone said ” What the mind can conceive the mind can achieve.” The subconscious mind unlike the conscious mind will accept what it hears and if it has been fed negative information, it absorbs it as fact. If you have been thinking of yourself as fat and that is mainly what you focus on then that is exactly what you experience in life. Therefore, you can understand that what you are feeding your mind is as important as what you feed your body.

In hypnotherapy, the hypnotherapist presents positive suggestions to your subconscious mind. Those positive suggestions are what you want for you, not what the hypnotherapist wants for you. We work together to clarify what it is that you want for yourself and we put that in the most positive language possible and feed it to your subconscious mind. Once that new information is in place in the long-term memory of the subconscious, your conscious mind can begin to act upon it. Ultimately you will then act in the new way that is in balance with your conscious desires.

Apart from being used to change behavioral patterns for the treatment of certain problems of patients, hypnosis has also been used for entertainment. When used in this form, it is called a hypnosis show. The effects of the trance in a hypnosis show only lasts as long as the performance is. There are no permanent effects.

The hypnotist while performing in front of an large audience need to choose his subject matter wisely. The choices he makes regarding his volunteer have to be picked with care. Normally, the hypnotist has to pick out volunteers to put under a trance and once under a trance, he can plant any suggestions into the mind of that particular person.

Like any other therapy, the hypnotist needs the total support of the person who is trying to put in to a hypnotic trance. It is a general norm that the hypnotist starts their shows by asking the audience to close their eyes and listen to what they are saying. This process is the most crucial one and is known as induction. This process will help him to find out the people who ate susceptible to his command and thus will in turn help him to choose his volunteers.

Members of the audiences who are not susceptible to the Hypnotist commands will be alert within the audiences. From this, the hypnotist will not select those who are resistant to his commands as volunteers.

The whole show actually begins from the moment when the hypnotist calls on the volunteers to come onto the stage. To create more hype and competition among the volunteers, the hypnotist uses a simple technique. What he does is place a few chairs less on the stage than the number of participants to make scramble for the seats. Those who are most willing volunteers will be rushing for the seats.

Once under a trance, the hypnotist can command the volunteers to do whatever he wishes with them. The volunteers will totally be under his command as if they are sleeping. He can make the volunteers think that they are intoxicated. Or he can also make them think that they are from another planet speaking an unknown language. The volunteers will actually starts speaking in an unknown language. However, once the show is over, they will awaken from the trance and will show no effects or have any recollection of what just happened.

The process of interaction between a hypnotist and the sub conscious mind of a patient is defined as clinical hypnosis. This process actually plays a crucial role in the treatment of a patient. The majority of clinical hypnosis are conducted only qualified physicians as only they have the requisite knowledge about the mental health of a patient.

Of late, clinical hypnosis has assumed tremendous importance in view of the fact that people visit trained hypnotists to tackle their problems like smoking, drinking and various others. This method of hypnosis at a clinic is proved to be successful to control obesity as well.

Most of us believe that hypnosis is a process in which the hypnotist whitewashes the patient’s brain and gives the brain a kind of a new beginning. It is not so. Hypnosis involves a huge time to show effects, and requires total co-ordination and co-operation from the person who is being treated. It is for this why the attitude of the patient is very important for proper treatment. In many cases, quite some sittings are required to achieve what the hypnotist had set out for. It all depends on the patient’s willingness to co-operate and accept the various positive suggestions that the hypnotist may recommend, and more positive the patient’s attitude, more sooner can the goal be achieved. For patients who wish to get rid of bad habits like smoking and drinking, extreme patience from the side of the patient is required for the result to be achieved.

Therapeutic hypnosis is the name given to such a treatment involving a hypnotist for the purpose. In comparison, self hypnosis involves the hypnosis of the subject on his own, by reading materials provided on a CD or on the internet. In case of clinical hypnosis, on the other hand, the hypnotist completely understands the patients mental status and works on it. Remember to select an expert hypnotist for the purpose of treatment, as because the involvement of an inexperienced hypnotist may lead to extreme kind of reactions. So an expert in the field is always beneficial for the patient.

Most people who wish to quit their habits of drinking and smoking opt for this kind of treatment. It is believed that a chunk of the income that hypnotists get is from patients who wish to get rid of their smoking and drinking habits. Presently, there is not enough material to support the treatment of serious diseases like diabetes, cancer, etc., by hypnosis, but hypnosis can surely be used by cancer patients to lessen the pain that they experience.

On the surface, NLP and hypnosis are very similar in many ways but when you dwell into the two subject matter with more depth, you will find that both of these topics are involves two different concepts entirely. Neuro -Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a scientific method used by many psychotherapists to modify behavioral patterns. It is a widely adopted methodology within the field of psychology.

The techniques of NLP find great usage in fields such as business and industries. It is also greatly used by advocates in various training activities, workshops ad also knowledge dissemination program. These workshops are essentially used in order to influence the other person’s views and perception. The underlying principle here is that with the acquisition of new knowledge and ideas there are also suitable change and modifications in a persons attitude and behavior.

Hypnosis is also a means that is used to influence the mind and the behavior of a person, but this process is highly unconventional, but none the less popular. Hypnosis generally targets the person’s subconscious. In this a person is commanded to perform actions, in a state of half sleep. In such a state of mind, the mind is more conducive to the obeying and accepting external demands from a third party. Unless recently, it was often regarded that hypnosis was like dealing with psychic. But of late this perception has entirely changed. Now hypnosis is treated with utmost scientific approach, according to the new study, we face hypnotic trance almost daily in our lives. You yourself must have experienced hypnosis while watching scenes in a movie or television.

Now the question that arises is, can we combine the two alike process NL and hypnosis? And if yes, what will be the significance? The answer is that the mixture of these two principles will lead to a better facilitation of knowledge and skill dissemination. In fact, there are many training sessions that involve the techniques of both the processes. By combing the two processes we can actually control the conscious and the sub-conscious state of mind. The end result of the combination is almost always positive.

Hypnosis unlike NLP, motivate a person to act out in a certain way and made to recall memories that are buried deep inside our mind. It acts more on the subconscious mind.

If one is planning to conduct a workshop based on using both these techniques, it is imperative that you enlist the aid of those who are professional in these areas. Hypnosis is a very sensitive and delicate subject matter and as such it is crucial that those who are targeting people’s subconscious mind knows what they are doing and dealing with. Although, this may call for more investment and research to find the suitable professional, it is necessary that you do so because of the ethical issues involved.

For many years, success has been viewed as a monopolistic trait of the rich and famous. However, that is only a fallacy as success actually begins and ends in the mind of a person. Our Mind is the biggest and most powerful assets that an individual can have in their quest to be successful. Programmed well, there is no limit to what our mind can achieve or do. You can now learn how to use hypnosis to help you achieve success.

Whether we realize it or not, our environment affects us in many ways. We have a perception of life in two perspective, Good and Bad. In fact, what is good or bad are just our own value judgment and our own perceptions. We can illustrate this with the following example where two individual who have just lost their job. The first individual because of the Job loss might be thinking about suicide when he contemplates the consequences of losing his job. His dignity, House and marriage might be at risk because of the loss of income. On the other side of the picture, The other person might be feeling please because he will have the opportunity to find alternative avenue to express his talents. Thus we can now begin to see why how we perceive things can affect our outlook of life.

We also do not realize that our present circumstance had been shaped by our past. Because of our negative past experiences, we tend to assume that faced with the same circumstances, it will automatically lead to the same results. Our mind become stagnant in processing positive experiences.

Because our perceptions of the present are shaped by our pasts, Our perceptions will shape our actions also in the present. What we do is totally determined by our perceptions entirely. Thus with that in mind, we have to agreed that our present actions will also shape our future. Therefore, it is essential that we correct our misconceptions and perceptions about our reality if we want to move ahead and be successful in our lives.

Having said that, perception about the outside world is just the one side of the coin. What you perceive about the future is as important. You must be certain of your goals in life, which is not the case with many people. Many people know what they don’t want, but are at a word’s loss when asked about what they want. Even if they know what they want, their answer would be quite vague. So it’s paramount to get a clear vision of what you want to achieve in life since identifying success without knowing it, is difficult!

The majority of people dwell on the negative as they can relate to those circumstances. Nevertheless, if we want to change at all our lives, we will need to change ourselves first in our mind. We might have had a bad experience in our past but it does not mean that it will be our future as well. At best, we should just take it as a lesson learnt and move on.
