Staying fit is not easy and if you’ve let yourself go for a bit, it can prove downright hard. Our bodies depend on our fitness levels to stay healthy so we shouldn’t be putting it off for long.

Staying fit doesn’t require you to run 6 miles each day. It only requires that your lungs are healthy and your heart is strong. There are benefits for the rest of your body too, such as losing that extra weight that somehow settled on your tummy.

Sweating on the treadmill for hours each day doesn’t sound like fun, is there an easy way to get fit and drop the extra weight?

Doing cardio work (running, cycling etc) is vital for heart health, but you can speed up your fitness and weight loss progress by undertaking a weightlifting fitness program.

Before you panic, don’t for a second think that you are going to turn into the incredible hulk! Lifting weights is a proven beneficial exercise that has multiple benefits:

- As you build muscle and lose fat, you’ll get rid of weight much quicker.

- You gain bone strength.

-You’ll have more energy and have a stronger body.

You can either do weightlifting fitness at home or in the gym. At home you will simply need to purchase a set of dumbbells and optionally, a barbell. These will come with round weights but you can buy more weights depending upon your weight lifting limits.

By beginning with lighter weights and moving on to their heavier counterparts when you are ready, your muscles and your body’s shape overall will begin to change positively.

Weight lifting gives you quicker results than simply walking or biking. But you shouldn’t turn your back on your cardio routine either. It’s essential to your body. Strive for a mix of 50% weight workouts and 50% cardio workouts.

Here’s a good routine to get you going in the morning: 30 minutes of cardio like going for a walk. Add your weights around mid day. Make sure not to work the same group of muscles each day. Your breaking them down so let them rebuild and recover. This is how your muscles grow and get stronger.

When you decide to go on a diet you are very likely to attract a great deal of comment and advice - sometimes much more than you would like. People are always eager to tell you what to do, but how much of the advice you get should you listen to?

There is always the diet of the moment. Someone is bound to have tried it. Have you noticed that people who recommend things often say things are good when in fact they are not? It’s not that they want to do you any harm or to mislead you: mostly they want to justify their decision to themselves.

If you′re planning on losing weight the best thing you can do is to keep it to yourself if you want a quiet life. If too many people know they will be asking you for progress reports. Their interest is well meant, but it can put you under pressure, particularly when things aren’t going too well.

So, the first thing to do is to keep things to yourself. Do your own research. Make your own decisions. If you rely too much on the advice of others you will find out the truth the hard way.

Decision time…what to do? Here’s the most important tip you′ll ever get if you want to lose weight and for the weight not to return. Don’t go on a diet!

Diets are the traditional way of losing weight. The diet industry is worth over $61 billion. That’s a lot of money, so presumably diets must work? The fact is that diets deliver short-term weight loss. 95% of people who go on diets never achieve what all dieters want - permanent weight loss.

If you want to lose weight - permanently, you have to make change. How do you do that? By getting rid of the habits that make you fat and by learning new slim habits.

Learning new habits is the only sure fire way of making change. It means that you can learn new eating and lifestyle habits that will be with you forever and it will allow you to take control of your life so that you never have to go on a diet again.

Are You Overweight

Last night I was having a few laughs with my business partners about the current political flopfest. We were making plenty of jabs at the so-called “stimulus” bill. I can’t print here what they said as I’m trying to keep this at least PG rated. Maybe some other time.

So the question I have for you is: Are you over weight? Or as Artie Lange would ask, “Too Fat To Fish?”

This is just common sense so I’m not going to spend time on medical specifics. We all know when we’re dragging around too much ballast. I do and from talking with my friends, they seem to know too.

The signs are always there.

Taking more than 5 seconds to button up pants.

Your collars getting tight.

Golf swing needing adjustment.

You start going back to the buffet a third time.

Three flights of stairs leave you winded.

It adds up. And I could go on from here. Like when you stop suddenly, your arms keep jiggling.

We all know, and we all need to start getting leaner. The way to get there is by doing a little planning.

The plan starts with getting on pharmaceutical grade fish oil, and staying on it. That’s easy, a couple of swallows a couple of times a day.

You’ll see the results in 60 days, but the internal benefits start immediately - as should YOU.

Then you need to start altering the way you eat, a little bit at a time. For instance, if you consume soda, or diet soda, on a daily basis, start cutting back and switching to water. One friend of mine was a Coca Cola addict, drinking up to six bottles or cans a day. When he made this simple change, switching from cola to water, he lost 14 pounds in eight weeks. He took my pharmaceutical grade fish oil, subbed water for cola, and 14 pounds disappeared.

Six more pounds came off when he replaced his lunch burgers with salads twice a week.

Then he took his ice cream servings down to just 4 ounces per day, and even more weight flew off.

For exercise, he walked up some hills. Then when he got used to that, he started jogging up them. His workouts didn’t last much longer than 15 minutes.

He’s 35 pounds lighter today and looks a decade younger.

He didn’t make any radical changes, or totally eliminate anything from his diet, other than soda. And he doesn’t miss it.

But he can tell you this. He took a business trip and forgot to pack his Dr. Bill’s Powerhouse Omega Formula, and he could feel that. He missed his dose for four days, and says if it ever happened again, he would have it Fedexed to him, immediately.

I’ve heard that same story over and over. Once you get your health levels up, you’ll become much more sensitive to a detour. And that’s a good thing.

If you want to lose weight should you start counting the calories? To many people who are caught in an endless cycle of dieting, counting calories is something they don’t look forward to. It’s a chore and it’s boring. What’s more they question whether it ever produces any worthwhile results.

Losing weight is very much about reducing the amount of energy (calories) you consume as well as how many calories you burn. Simply, if you want to lose weight you need to burn more calories than you consume.

Our diets are not that complicated that it is that difficult to know the value of the calories we consume. No science degree is required to keep track of the energy your body uses. It’s really very straight forward.

If you change your daily menu it’s easy to look up and remember the values of the new food you are eating. What you don’t need to do is to get concerned that you may be 15 or 20 calories out in your calculation. Don’t forget your portion sizes will vary too.

The best thing to do is to develop what is called an ‘informed judgement′ about the value of the calories that you consume. Soon you’ll be able to look at a plate of food and get the total calorie value pretty accurate.

If you’re not sure and you think that you are going to eat more calories than you should, you should just leave the food and not eat it. Don’t feel that you always have to eat everything on your plate.

Knowing about calories is very important. Being able to ‘count them′ (not obsessively) is also something you need to be able to do. Knowing about food labels is also important. You need to be able to take good, informed decisions about what you buy.

If you want to lose weight permanently you have to learn about calories, you need to get the calorie habit. It will serve you well because you will be in control of what you buy and what you eat.
