Each and every day I noticed many people asking questions in forums about the latest fad diets, even though they have already joined a weight loss programs. If you are also one who runs after fad diets, I would like to ask you one simple question to: is there a need to look for another diet plan? Aren’t you satisfied with your current weight loss program, and if not, why not? Is your current diet plan not suitable for you? In this article I will explore some of the possible reasons why you may not be able to lose weight.

1. Are you unable to stay away from your favorite foods? You know, I have been there and done that. Once under a diet, I decided never to touch the so-called ‘forbidden foods’, but I broke my resolution on more than one occasion. My question is - do you want to find out the best diet plan simply because you are not able to get rid of the forbidden foods and therefore unable to lose the amount of weight you would like to? Do you really think that there is any diet plan that would help you lose weight without restricting your food intake in any way? Before you say no, let me tell you that more or less, almost all diet programs come with their own restrictions. The best diet plan is one which places the least amount of restrictions on your food habits. In my opinion, if you ever find such a diet plan, you better stick to it throughout your life because it is worth its weight in gold!

Remember that in order to lose weight, all you need to do is eat healthy foods. Placing unnecessary food restrictions on yourself will do you no good. Depriving yourself of your favorite foods will force you to start binge eating, and over time, you will gain far more weight than what you started with!

2. Do you loathe figuring out calories all the time, throughout your life? You know, I too hate those diet programs that require me to know the calorie content of every single food item that I eat, as well as count calories of every piece of food that I have for my dinner. It is maddening! If you have ever counted calories, you will agree with me that it is not only tedious and dull, but also extremely frustrating. Calorie counting at once makes the otherwise simple weight loss plan look a lot more complicated, which in turn discourages you from achieving your weight loss goals. Consider for instance, what will you do before visiting your favorite fast food restaurant? Would you plan your meal months or weeks in advance, or try to figure out whether the foods that you are going to be served with contain more calorie than you are allowed to consume?

You should never join those expensive weight loss programs that require you to buy special foods from them in order to lose weight. As a matter of fact, you don’t need to eat any ’special’ food′ in order to lose weight. You can get all the healthy foods you need from your local grocery store!

The weight loss industry is rife with fads, and every other day, I see a new fad coming up. Even more surprising than the rapid innovation of fads is how easily the common people are accepting these fads without thinking twice about possible repercussions. People hope to lose weight quickly with the help of these fad products, but if you ask me, I never believe in fads, and never will! Avoid Junk Foods: All efforts to lose weight will be useless if you cannot refrain yourself from eating junk and processed foods for the reason that these foods have high calorie content and will add to your pounds. You should always try to eat healthy. To make sure that you don’t give in to any temptations, make sure you have a considerable stock of raw fruits and vegetables in your house. Also make sure that you cook your own meals, so you can decide how much oil to use. Keep in mind the less oil you consume, the better for you!

2. Eat in small portions: Avoid being lazy. Eating just one large meal a day with the intention to lose weight, even though you may survive anyway, is probably not the best option. Ideally, you should split your large dinner into five or six small meals and eat each small portion every four or five hours. Every time you eat, your metabolism will increase and you will be able to burn a lot of fat. Plus it will help suppress your appetite as you won’t feel hungry all the time!

3. Cut down calories without depriving yourself: You can lose weight only when you consume less calories than what you burn, and to make sure that you can achieve this end, you should start cutting down on your calorie intake by small percentages everyday. Most exercisers today do long-duration cardio and aerobic activities as exercises to lose weight. They think this will help them lose fat fast, but this is a huge mistake. Recent studies have shown that long-duration cardio exercise doesn’t work to burn fat. When this is what everybody’s been doing, how could it be wrong?

There are several reasons for this. I’ll focus on the two that matter the most. What happens when you exercise on an elliptical trainer or treadmill over the course of 30 minutes is that your body does burn fat. This sounds great, but it’s not what you want.

Your brain is wired to keep you alive. So what you’re doing is sending a signal to your body to keep fat around for the next time you exercise. It’s unbelievable, I know, but what you really telling your body is that “you’ll be doing this exercise again, so keep some fat around”. It is true that you’re burning calories during a workout, but as soon as the workout is over your body goes to storing fat again for the next one. Obviously, this is not what we want. What we want is to burn fat as fast as possible.

The other thing that doesn’t help is that when you perform medium intensity cardio and aerobic activity several times a week, you just get really good at it. You train your body to become very efficient. You may be wondering, “How can that be bad?”. Making your body too efficient is not good for you. You end up working where you were really good, and you never improve your aerobic capacity.

This is crucial because your aerobic capacity is exactly how your body knows how to respond to all kinds of stress. When you diminish your aerobic capacity, as you do when you do these types of workouts, you can actually be hurting your long-term health, as well as not letting your body burns much fat as a can.

Here’s some good news. You can reverse these effects with high intensity resistance training. Here’s some even better news. You’ll probably actually get some of your time back, because these workouts only take 15 to 20 minutes on average, and you can view them as a couple times a week.

These types of workouts are amazing. They burn carbs during a workout. This is important, because when you do this over the next 24 hours your body will reach into its fat stores, and burn the fat that is on your hips, thighs and tummy. Isn’t that a neat trick? That is the best kind of exercise to lose weight.

You must do what you’re doing to make this effective. You must have intense workouts (not too crazy though) and you need to keep your rest periods between sets of exercises below 60 seconds.

When you do these type of exercises to lose weight, you will be amazed by the results. Your body will start shrinking, because you’re not just losing weight you’re losing fat.
