Depression is a medical condition. Depression is comprised of many stages of illness. They can range from mild depression, Bi-polar disorders or manic depression, all the way up to major depression. Depression is no doubt considered a disease. It’s a mental disease, but a disease nonetheless. It strikes a critical organ, the brain. Depression doesn’t make a person a lesser person. It does not place you in a category that is stereotyped as weird or nuts. Just like other illnesses it can be treated.

Early depression is hard to detect. Sadness is part of life. People can become sad for a variety of reasons. This alone does not constitute depression. Depression isn’t short term. Depression is long term. If the depressed mood seems to linger week after week and begins to affect your daily life than that is a sure sign of depression . Radical mood swings are a sure sign of depression. Bad eating and inability to sleep are also signals.

Medical depression has complex causes. It leaves open many possibilities and factors that must be taken into consideration. Stress is certainly one of the major causes of depression. There is so much stress in our lives today. Stress is part of personal interaction. Stress comes from balancing the books. Raising children is stressful and so can result in medical depression. Some forms of medical depression come on after losing a loved one. Chemical, environmental and even genetic issues further complicate the situation.

The positive result is that there are cures for medical depression. 17 million people nation wide are affected with medical depression yearly. 2/3 of those will never seek medical attention. It is hard to get a cure if you don’t get diagnosed. There are medications both natural and prescribed on the market today. Medical professionals can also assist the cure by offering ‘talk therapy’. This is a means of talking out the problem with you.. There are also many different support groups that allow you to associate with those who suffer and feel the same as you do. You do not have to get through medical depression alone. Such a disease isn’t self healing. Medical professionals should be consulted if you or someone you know shows symptoms of medical depression.

Let there be no doubt that depression is a serious mental illness that requires months and sometimes years of treatment on the path to a cure. Millions of Americans across the United States are affected by depression each and every year. The situation becomes worse because only one third of those who suffer depression ever get treated.

Depression has always been classified as a mental affliction. Therefore, many Americans choose not to be placed into that category. Instead of being considered mentally ill, people try to manage the problem themselves. Unlike a headache depression doesn’t eventually stop on its own, and more people suffer from depression than you might think.

What are the causes for depression? The answer can get very complicated because you have to take many factors into consideration. There are so many things factored into the cause of this disease. Here are a few of the parts of depression. Many medical professionals believe that depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. But what causes the imbalance?

Typically the causes stem from biological, genetic, physical, mental and environmental implications. There are those inflicted that never really determine what spurned their depression. Depression often follows diagnosis of other medical conditions, particularly those that result in imminent death or are chronic.

Depression can also stem from the emotional pain when a close person dies. Everyone knows such losses are serious. Long periods of emotional, sexual or other physical abuses can result in depression. When people abuse drugs and/or alcohol the result is often depression. People’s mental states are fragile. If exposed to the wrong pressures, depression can result. There can also be a genetic element to depression. A strong correlation between family history of depression and current depression has been found. Many prescription drugs can cause depression. It has been clinically proven that some high blood pressure medication can cause depression.

A major cause of depression is stress. In our lives many events and elements can cause stress. Some of that stress can even be related to positive events in our lives such as promotions, graduation or moving into a new house. In these cases it’s not the good event causing stress, but fear of the unknown and/or fear of ability to deserve or maintain the positive element. In addition, many are stressed from personal conflicts with their loved ones, associates in employment or friends. Some people have a low threshold for stress. They’re affected by events and activities that to others seem to not be stressful.

Doctors first look for cause when seeking a treatment for depression. If you or someone you love suffers from depression-please seek medical assistance.

Depression isn′t simple. Depression can linger and grow for months or even years before being detected . It’s known that some 15 million people in America will be impacted by some type of depression each year. Unfortunately fewer than 1/3 of these people will look for help.

Those with the disease don′t even know it in many cases. Life is full of stress on a daily basis. The road blocks in life have become more severe. Many families are surviving week to week. The recent economic crises has created even more pressure to obtain and hold a job. Stress can give birth to depression.

Countless types of depression exist. Many of the labels are similar in meaning. These include medical depression, clinical depression and manic depression. Late stages of the disease are called severe depression.

Depression is brought on by many associating factors. There are those that believe it is biological, that chemical imbalances in the brain lead us to depression. Depression is also passed along in the genes. Those with family histories of depression are at risk.

Different types of depression are given birth by other similar factors. Depression is often the result of substance abuse. Alcohol or drugs both show links to depression. The death of a family member can increase the chance for depression.

Mental depression has taken a bad rap down through history. Before being classified as a disease it was thought to be a defect in character. The end result was treatment that was not appropriate or effective. Negative effects persist through all the stages of depression. Therefore treatment requires early detection.

When it has become severe depression treatment is needed ASAP. At this stage suicide is often the result. The calls for assistance weren′t answered and now the chance to solve the problem is fading. Treatment is typically ‘talk therapy’ and anti-depressants. Also available are support groups that can help. Natural herbs have also been found to work.

There are options available to those who suffer from all types of depression. If you or someone you love are experiencing symptoms of lingering depression please consult a medical professional for diagnosis and treatment.
