It’s easy to get bogged down in life’s problems. When the going gets tough, we always have two options. We can allow circumstances to take away our motivation and defeat us or we can rise to the challenge. A gratitude bracelet is one aid to staying positive, even when the odds seem stacked against us.

The Importance of Gratitude

The fact of the matter is we can always find someone worse of then we are. By considering and recognizing the blessings we already have when things seem to be going down hill, we have reach that small but powerful step we need to take to find ourselves with a more positive outlook.

It can be a difficult task to detach oneself in order to objectively view various situations. If you surround yourself with pessimistic attitudes, in the end they can only aggravate the situation instead of improving it. Take for example some sort of depressive illness. Many things can appear to be far worse than they really are. A spiralling decline seems to happen when we allow ourselves to view subsequent issues in our lives in negative terms.

Pessimism can be appropriate. Misplaced optimism and denial can be as damaging as a negative attitude. The trick is to find balance and to seek ways to keep our perceptions and reactions in proportion. Gratitude is important as a counterbalance to focusing on the problems we are experiencing.

What Do I Have To Be Grateful For?

Many of us don’t even come close to recognizing the many things we have to be grateful for. If people don’t count their blessings in life, it is quite easy to take the positive aspects for granted. By keeping a journal of things to be grateful for has been proven as an effective tool to enhance the happiness we feel. By keeping a record of the many things we can be grateful about on a daily basis could include such things as an appreciation of our friends and family, the journaling of our children’s milestones or anything else you are grateful for. By searching for and documenting the positives in your life, it can be quite amazing to see how long the list is of times or things that deserve their own gratitude.

Gratitude Bracelets and a Positive Attitude

Maintaining a positive attitude by using gratitude as a tool provides you with regular reinforcement. Even though we are using a gratitude journal as a tool to remind us on a daily basis what our blessings or what the positive things are in our lives, a gratitude bracelet can also be a tool to keep those positive thoughts in place. By stopping for a few seconds every time you put your bracelet on, take it off or even look at it you are providing yourself with a reminder of those many things you have to be happy about. Leave the reasons you have for discontent aside and just focus on the positives at these times.

Your choice of gratitude bracelet could be dependant on many different ideals. It could be as simple as a general reminder you have many positive things in your life. It can also be as complex as finding one symbolizing some of the many things that enrich your life on a daily basis. You can choose a color that reminds you of your favorite part of nature, or a color that makes you think about that particular look in a loved ones eyes.

Once there is a positive connection made between you and your gratitude bracelet there will be an endless number of opportunities to be reminded of the positive things in your life. Consider giving a gratitude bracelet as a gift, and not only are you blessing that person with the opportunity to remember their personal reasons of gratitude, they will also think of you as the person who gave them this priceless chance to remember all other reasons they have to be grateful.

It’s easy to get bogged down in life’s problems. When the going gets tough, we always have two options. We can allow circumstances to take away our motivation and defeat us or we can rise to the challenge. A gratitude bracelet is one aid to staying positive, even when the odds seem stacked against us.

Discovering the Importance of Gratitude

It may seem like a small consolation when you consider there is always someone in a worse predicament than yourself. When life seems to be on a steady decline, recognize the areas in which you are blessed. By doing this you are taking a big, powerful step towards the beginning of a brand new positive outlook on life.

It can be hard to be detached and view situations objectively. A pessimistic attitude compounds the problem. As in depressive illness, things seem worse than they actually are. The worse things seem, the more likely we are to interpret subsequent events in our lives in negative terms. It becomes a downward spiral.

Pessimism can be appropriate. Misplaced optimism and denial can be as damaging as a negative attitude. The trick is to find balance and to seek ways to keep our perceptions and reactions in proportion. Gratitude is important as a counterbalance to focusing on the problems we are experiencing.

And Just What Do I Have To Be Grateful For?

A large number of us barely scratch the surface when it comes to recognizing those things we should be grateful for. Many don’t realize they are taking these positive things for granted, and sometimes forget to count their blessings. A good way to keep track of these positive aspects of our lives is by keeping a gratitude journal. Simply keeping a daily record of the things in life we should be grateful for, such as friends and family or celebration of a small stroke of luck has been proven to enhance happiness. Once the seeking out of positives in your life has been noted, it can easily amaze you at how many things you actually have to be grateful for.

How a Gratitude Bracelet Helps Maintain a Positive Attitude

Maintaining a positive attitude by using gratitude as a tool provides you with regular reinforcement. Even though we are using a gratitude journal as a tool to remind us on a daily basis what our blessings or what the positive things are in our lives, a gratitude bracelet can also be a tool to keep those positive thoughts in place. By stopping for a few seconds every time you put your bracelet on, take it off or even look at it you are providing yourself with a reminder of those many things you have to be happy about. Leave the reasons you have for discontent aside and just focus on the positives at these times.

You could wear a gratitude bracelet as a general reminder of the positive things in your life or choose a bracelet with beads that symbolize particular things that enrich your life: people, pets, health, and nature. Choose a color that will remind you of the eyes of a loved one or a material whose feel reminds you of something you have and love.

The possibilities are endless. Once you have made the association, you will be reminded of the positive things in your life every time you see or touch it. Give a bracelet as a gift and the receiver will remember you, and other loved ones, with gratitude. A gratitude bracelet can remind you of all the beauty there is in the world.

You hear a lot about the power of gratitude. On paper it makes sense, right? If you’re grateful for things then you begin to focus on what you have rather than focus on what you don’t have. However, when things are tough and life is full of challenges, it can be tough to keep gratitude at the forefront of our minds.

Why Gratitude is Important

Gratitude changes your perspective on the life that you’ve been given. When you have gratitude in your life you:

Look to others, and their faults and mistakes as blessings. Blaming no longer exists. Rather than to look at what you lost or what you don’t have, you simply look at what you do have and go from there.

View others with an open heart rather than a closed heart. This means that you feel compassion for others regardless of whether you have anything in common with them or not. A life filled with compassion is a happy and abundant life.

You will feel less judgmental of others. Gratitude enables you to see past people’s mistakes, and your own, and be grateful for their strengths.

Feel merciful towards others who are not in their best place or have not reached a place where they can look at the world from a place of gratitude.

Look at what you do have and be grateful. Concentrating on the positives in your life attract more positive energies. How is that? Whatever you cultivate in your life will begin to grow. If you want a good life, change your focus.

Gain Gratitude Abundance in your Life

Use a journal to record the things in your life that you are grateful for. Identifying your blessings makes you aware of them. We don’t give enough thought to such things and usually take them for granted. Think about the breaths you take each day and the food you get to eat when you are hungry. What about the people who make your life great and the pleasant surroundings you life in? Once you learn to recognize them, you’ll be amazed at how they begin to outnumber your challenges.

Practice gratefulness. You won’t become an expert overnight but with practice you will see a difference in your attitude and your life. Instead of going to sleep feeling weighed down, you can use that abundance of gratitude you have developed to sleep well and wake up unencumbered by worry.

Use gratitude in your everyday life. Some people develop rituals to make it easier to develop a gracious spirit. Wear gratitude jewelry get routine massages; spend time with friends; meditate you can also use your journal. Whatever brings you positive thoughts can be incorporated into your routine.

Help another person. We find deeper meaning in our lives when we make someone else’s life better. Volunteer with the homeless, give to charity, or do something nice for a stranger every day.

Clear out anything in your life that weighs you down. Attract more gratitude by removing negative people and attitudes that detract from your gratitude abundance.

Gratitude abundance is waiting for you to reach out and embrace it. The choice is yours, invite it in and change your life.

When the Glass is One Tenth Full

Do you focus on the positive even when there’s much less than half of it there?

When you have a choice, it’s usually better to tell people what they can do rather than can’t. Here are three examples:

I read an e-book titled, “The Top Ten Secrets of Instant Wealth″ by Salad Seminars CEO Jamie Smart. I probably wouldn’t have noticed an e-book like that but I’ve recently acquired two sets of Salad playing flash cards.

Jamie talks about asking better questions for wealth. Instead of seeing something and saying, “I can’t afford it,” he suggests asking, “How can I afford it?” The glass being half full significantly affects your attitude as it will with your audience.

The second example is that I sometimes see marketers bad mouth “hypnotic techniques.” Here’s a quote from an article in the Early to Rise e-zine (July 31st Issue):

“Don’t try to be a copywriter. Just explain what you’ve got and why anyone should care - and then just get out of the way.

“In other words, don’t mess around with mystical, manipulative tactics that are supposed to magically vacuum money out of your prospects’ wallets while they grin stupidly in a hypnotic trance.

“Just talk to people. Be interesting. Be respectful of their time. Share value. Make your pitch. And shut up.”

No doubt the point the author was trying to make was to avoid the mistake of sounding like you’re trying too hard or using hype. He’s telling you to do exactly what a copywriter does while starting by telling you not to try to be a copywriter.

The one tenth part of this is that the writer must not know how to use hypnotic language patterns well. That just means there’s more opportunity for those of us that do.

This post was prompted this last example. I went to see a movie at our IMAX last week. The theater is inside a state history museum. While everyone was waiting in line, one of the museum employees made an announcement with an interesting one tenth full twist.

He announces that food and drinks will be allowed in the theater as long as they were water with screw top bottles and candy bars still sealed in their wrappers. There’s no doubt that this approach was better received than telling people that no food or drinks were allowed except bottled water.

It reminds me of the saying attributed to Henry Ford that you could have any color of Model-T car as long as it was black.

I don’t know how many people noticed the approach at the museum but I found it humorous. That was actually much less than one tenth full but you get the point… be affirmative as much as possible for best results.

Getting Excited - The Honeymoon Period

Almost every time we start something new we go through a honeymoon period of excitement, but sometimes it wears off. You see a program on TV or see a website that motives you to buy it and get started on your new weight loss journey. You’re all excited about this new program, but then within a few weeks you’re bored with it and are back to your old routines.

What happened? You were so excited at first, but now that excitement has died. I see this happen to people all the time. The motivation goes away because the only thing that had you going was that initial motivation! You have to find a way to keep the weight loss motivation going longer.

Tips to Keep the Motivation Strong

A lot of people quit whatever program they are on because it didn′t happen as quickly as they hoped. And honestly, a lot of times they had unrealistic expectations anyway! One thing you can do to keep the motivation going is make sure you are setting realistic explectations on what you can accomplish in a certain time period.

It’s also important to have short term and long term goals. If all of your goals are based on the next 2 weeks, what do you do after that? Also, if your goal is for a really long period of time you probably won′t be able to stay focused on it long enough to stay motivated.

Keep it Exciting by Mixing it Up

If you get bored with whatever program you′re following you′re likely to give up on it and go back to your old habits. Find a way to mix things up from time to time to make it more fun. This will help you stick with your overall goal of losing weight.

A lot of people overlook this weight loss tip. We tend to keep doing the things we enjoy more than the things that we just have to do. If you can find a way to get some variety into both your workout and your diet you′ll have more fun losing weight, and thus stick with it.

If you can mix things up and keep yourself motivated after the honeymoon period you′ll be much more likely to stick with your plan of losing weight for the long run. Stick with it and have fun and you′ll reach your goals!
