European Fitness and Well Being

What we see around us everyday we come to view as normal. Take on a new perspective and all that changes. This is why travel used to be considered an essential part of education.

This past week, I have been performing my hypnosis show on a cruise ship in Europe. It has been awesome (honestly, I can hardly believe I get paid to do this stuff!). Ive seen many wonders of the ancient world (the Colosseum in Rome, The Leaning Tower of Pisa, the ruins of Pompeii). And everywhere I go there is scrumptuous local food to sample (gelato in Monaco, grilled octopus in Greece, Pizza in Naples). And everything tastes different than it does in America.

And, the familiar foods even taste different. Pizza tastes different, The crusts are thinner and the sauces less sweet. There are no fast food restaurants that I have seen. Instead they have little shops open to the street that have freshly prepared sandwiches and baguettes behind glass. Not burgers and fries. In general, the foods are served in smaller portions, are less sugary, and are more commonly made from locally grown ingredients. They are NOT of full of additives and preservatives and chemicals. They are simple, fresh, and local. I am sure that its no small coincidence that I have seen very few overweight Europeans in these areas.

Plus, the fact that they get outside and walk more has something to do with this as well. You dont see everyone staring at TVs or laptop screens or plugged into cell phones and iPods. They really are walking around and talking with one another. But I digress.

In many places worldwide the population is leaner and more fit than the United States. I notice this every time Im in Australia and New Zealand too. I think were slowly killing ourselves in the States with the foods we eat and the lifestyles we lead. Personally Id rather pay a bit more for my food and only eat fresh food than consume all the chemicals that most of our prepackaged foods now contain.

One hundred twenty million Americans are now considered obese (according to the governments own statistics). Thats a third of our population. Many of these people will develop other disease as a result of this condition, like diabetes, heart disease, and certain kinds of cancer. This is not the case in Europe and most of the rest of the world. Were doing this to ourselves. Its time to stop this madness and do something about it.

* Dont eat something just because its cheap or its fast or its convenient.

* Dont eat it just because its on your plate and you feel compelled to finish it.

* Eat only because your body needs it to replenish itself and restore its energy.

* Reconnect your mind with your body.

* Know what its like to feel really satisfied after a meal instead of stuffed full.

* Learn what a real tomato tastes like.

* Once again retake control of your life.

Look around you, what you see isnt normal, its the sad result of the disconnection of our minds from our bodies and our bodies from the land on which we live. Weve been trained to think that following diets and counting calories are the roadmaps to fitness and good health. Its much simpler than that.

If you′d visit the Greek Isles or Cote dAzur in France and youd see that you can be absolutely perfectly satisfied with a freshly baked baguette, some olive oil, herbs, and tomatoes picked from from the garden out back, with perhaps a a small bit of protein and a single glass of red wine. Consume slowly with a beautiful companion and enjoy while overlooking the sea on a sun drenched afternoon.

Free from rules. Just living life exactly as it was meant to be lived. Simple, satisfying, and free.

While it may not have occurred to many people, leading a disorganized life can and does often result in one being overweight. The majority who lack organization in their daily lives tend to spend most of their time rushing about and this includes eating. Of course, it stands to reason that those who eat to fast also often end up eating too much.

Another tell tale sign of an unorganized life is untidiness or mess, both at the work place and at home. Here again, having a lot of mess laying about is bound to cause stress, and stress in turn often leads to overeating. As we can see, having a well organized lifestyle optimizes your chances for a happy and healthier life.

Being unorganized is without a doubt, a key factor which causes stress, and for millions of people who feel stressed, reaching for something to eat is the first thing that comes to mind.

Even health conscious people slip up from time to time and have to resort to instant meals or something similar because they have run out of supplies, but if your life is disorganized, you′ll find this happens to you far more frequently than it should. As a result, you find yourself eating junk foods more often than you eat wholesome foods.

Do you eat regular meals at regular times? If you′re disorganized then the chances are you don’t and this can very often lead to ill health. Eating at regular times is essential in order to lose weight and regulate ones blood sugar levels. Skipping regular meals can often cause a drop in blood sugar levels which in turn has a tendency to cause people to over eat.

Take time out to plan your meals ahead of time so that you always have everything you need at hand. This is the only way to ensure that your meals remain nutritious rather than filling yourself up with junk foods.

By being organized and having a shopping list where you have determined in advance the right foods for your diet and weight loss you will be less likely to buy food that you shouldn’t be buying when you go to the supermarket.

Organization is one of the keys to success in following any weight loss program. It also helps to reduce the amount of time that you have to think about food and think about losing weight and when that doesn’t become such a big focus in your life you are more likely to succeed.

Consuming a huge amount of calories on a daily basis can be one of the causes of your overweight condition. How can you possibly lose weight when you are taking in far more calories on a daily basis than what you are burning off with activity.

In order to lose weight you will have to become more aware of what you are eating daily and try to eat smaller portions than normal. Counting calories and weighing your food on food scales can be frustrating, but unless you are going to make the effort to reduce your portions, this is what you will have to do in order to lose weight.

It’s all about reducing the amount of calories you eat and you can do this by educating yourself on the different food groups and their calorie counts. For instance I bet you didn’t know that fruits even have varying calorie counts.

A lot of people have absolutely no idea what type of foods they should be eating to lose weight and how many calories they should have each day to be able to lose weight. Different food groups have different calories, with fruits and vegetables being in the lower calorie food group.

When you learn that fruits and vegetables are much better for you it will be easy for you to plan nutritious meals. I for one would always choose the pizza over a balanced meal anytime. My choices were obviously all wrong, because I spent many years of my life being overweight.

Now with minimal effort I eat balanced nutritious meals and reward myself with pizza and treats once a week. Pounds just seem to melt off me now and that’s making me very happy.

Eating sensibly doesn’t have to be that hard, it just has to be a well thought out balanced nutritious meal. I enjoy lots of fruits and vegetables, which amazingly become delicious after eating them for awhile. I can say this because I used to hate eating fruits and vegetables. Now I love them.

Calories play a major role in weight loss and once you learn to be more aware of the nutritious value in what you are eating, the pounds will start falling off for you as well.

Three Secrets to Weight Loss

In case you were wondering, there actually is a secret to weight loss and don’t you want to know that it is! Factually speaking it is all about common sense with a little bit of determination and a whole lot of perseverance. We will discuss these three areas how that can be applied to a weight loss program.

Common Sense: Common sense tells you that you should not be eating that large order of French fries, or that extra big piece of chocolate cake. Then who listens to common sense when those hunger pangs, and cravings are taking over. It is easy for someone to sit by the sidelines and say you just are not exercising any will power. Especially since most of these people do not have a weight problem.

It is also very easy for others to stand in judgment and blame others of not being able to exercise will power when it comes to delicious food hovering around. However, these are the ones without a weight problem.

From now on for whatever bad food you eat get yourself a helping of a dish of good food. Try to eat a portion of your healthy food before you eat the junk food. Let u say that you like to eat apples and you have a chocolate just waiting to be consumed, first eat your apple then the piece of cake. It will further help eat half the serving of cake. You should continue this practice steadily increasing the quantity of healthy food in you daily diet. Now, don’t expect to make progress in your weight loss program just yet, this is just changing your eating habits.

Perseverance: Perseverance is a technique, or rather a quality, that will cultivate healthy eating habits in you. This really means that every single time you fail you start all over again. Eventually you will only eat healthy foods never even thinking of all the junk food in the world. It is also very possible that when you have practiced perseverance for a few days your weight loss will have started taking effect.

Believing In Yourself: It is also very important for an individual suffering from obesity to have a high level of self esteem. This is the process of believing in oneself. A lot of overweight individuals begin to have pity on themselves and this leads to over eating or incessant eating habits. Eating as everyone knows it is what leads to being overweight. Self pity is the exact opposite of believing on oneself and this is something that needs to be cultivated. Overweight people need to concentrate only on the brighter side of their character and the stronger points of their personalities and stop blaming themselves all the time if they want to successfully lose weight.

Have you ever noticed how those who are disorganized tend to spend most of their time rushing about? The sad thing is that because of their disorganized lifestyle, they also tend to rush their meals and of course, those who eat to fast tend to eat more than they need to which results in them becoming overweight.

Mess causes distress and that in turn causes people to eat too much. Are you beginning to see the picture of how having a well organized life will help you to maintain a more balanced and healthy body?

Many people resort to eating in the effort to handle stress and being disorganized is a surefire way of increasing levels of stress in your life.

Being organized will also ensure that you have the right food in your house and you don’t have to resort to low quality foods that you keep as a backup for those times when you run out of the nutritious food that you should be eating.

Being organized will also help you to eat at regular times throughout the day and by being regular with your eating it will help you to maintain more consistent blood sugar levels that will reduce the chance of you getting into low blood sugar and over eating to compensate.

By planning ahead with your meals you can plan to have better meals and you won’t need to resort to fast foods because you haven’t got any other food organized by the time you’re ready to eat.

Shopping lists are quite literally invaluable to everyone but especially to those who are on a weight loss program. Planning ahead as to what foods you need will ensure that you always have enough of everything in order to prepare a healthy meal.

For anyone on a weight loss program, being organized is of paramount importance. Not only will it help you maintain a healthy balanced diet, but it will also save you a considerable amount of time. Having planned your meals ahead means you won’t need to spend hours everyday worrying about what you’ll be having for your next meal and this on it’s own, can reduce stress even further.
