Relieve Pressure and Panic with Meditation

A simple description of meditation would be to say it’s a technique we can use to focus our attention away from the random thoughts that fill our daily lives and onto the truly meaningful parts of our lives. Through meditation, one can achieve great tranquility. This tranquility is very useful to us as we fight against the stress, anxiety, and panic that face us every day.

Yet while most people have heard about meditation, a relative few have really tried it. This is mostly because meditation is perceived as a mysterious art. One that takes a great deal of time and dedication to master. So people are intimidated and never really try it because they think it’s too difficult. This is wrong thinking.

Meditation is actually a simple art to learn. To practice it you only need some time and a relatively quiet space. It requires nothing else really except your presence and attention. And after only one or two sessions, you can actually begin to experience its calming benefits.

To start out, I think it’s best to try to find some competent instruction somewhere. Look for an organized class. It’s always better to have a teacher who’s “been there” to help you avoid the wrong turns. Local community organizations like community colleges, churches, or organizations like the YMCA are great, low cost places to find some beginning instruction.

And don′t forget your library. You’ll find many titles about meditation at any well-stocked library. Books have the advantage of giving you great depth on the subject and they can also get you going rather fast. But their disadvantage is that they can only guide you so far and they can′t help you make corrections or changes.

Audio CDs and DVDs are an excellent way to get started with meditation. They provide more guidance by actually leading you into and through each meditation session. This gives you a more “full-bodied″ experience and leads to a deeper practice and understanding which leads to more anxiety relief benefits.

Breathing meditations are the usual first meditations learned by beginners. These are easy to learn and they give you a quick understanding of what meditation feels like. Depending on your desire, you can move into more advanced forms of meditating like full-body meditations or conceptual or emotional meditations. The more time you spend in meditation, the more tranquility you feel.

The practice of meditation is a very old and studied art. It’s been around for 1,000’s of years because it yields real benefits. It’s a truly effective method for dealing with stress, anxiety, and even panic attacks. So I′d recommend that you give it a try. After all, it’s easy to do, doesn′t cost much, and it could mean a great difference in your life.

Panic Attack Remedies That Work

Stopping a panic attack after it’s started is not an easy task. Mostly, you have to ride it out, stay calm, and lean on your experience. Certain drugs can provide immediate relief, but they usually have some severe side effects. So the question is, what types of panic attack remedies truly work? Here are some real ones that do.

First, there’s exercise? Countless studies have shown that regular exercise has a positive effect on the number and severity of panic attacks. It makes perfect sense too when you think about it. When we exercise, we feel better about ourselves. And when we feel better about ourselves we’re much more able to take on the challenges we face every day. So think about including exercise as a way of helping to control your anxiety.

Watch your caffeine and alcohol intake. These are drugs in their own right and they can have serious effects on your mood. Too much coffee for instance can put you right on the edge of a panic attack. Alcohol too can set your mood spinning. So be careful with these or any other substances that may adversely affect your mood.

Add some natural remedies to your daily diet. There are many non-drug substances available at health food stores that have calming and healing effects, especially herbal teas. Everyone’s heard about Chamomile’s sedative properties, but other teas like Lemon Balm and Passion Flower have calming effects as well. Find one that you enjoy and relax over a cup once a day.

Take the time to learn a relaxation technique or two. For instance, there are simple yoga breathing exercises you can learn and perform just about anywhere. And they can have an immediate calming effect. Or you can spend more time and take a course on meditation and learn how to use guided imagery as a tool to control your stress.

Look at your own life a little more carefully and try to expand on the things that you enjoy. For example, let’s say you love listening to music. How about making a weekly date with yourself to put on some headphones and listen to your favorite CDs for an hour or two? That not only gives you a space to avoid stress, but it gives you something to look forward to when you’re in the middle of a stressful encounter.

Don′t be afraid to talk to someone about what’s going on in your life. Share your worries and concerns. You can talk to a friend or you can talk to a professional. Either way, you’ll benefit by opening up and letting go of the stress. It acts as sort of a safety valve for your emotions.

The best panic attack remedy is the one that works for you. In order to discover what that is, you’re going to have to take an active role and do some homework. Some techniques will work better than others, but your experience with each will teach you something and bring you closer to a solution. Remember, if you stick with it, things will get better.

Workplace stress is one of the most difficult forms of stress to avoid. You must work and once at work you will find many things to stress over. Stress in the workplace is not totally necessary. Like other stressors, there are methods to manage those found in the workplace. If you cannot avoid the stress, you can try to manage it.

The need for everything to be done today is one cause of stress. For instance, your boss wants you to complete a stack of projects as soon as possible but then comes by looking for a project already turned in. Oh, and by the way, once you get that for him, he has another stack of projects to address. It looks like it will never end but with help, you can manage it.

The best way to begin to manage the stress is by focusing on only one task at a time. Multi-tasking will lead to failure as it impacts your system. Changing focus between projects makes demands on your brain and it takes time to change your thoughts from one project to another. If you maintain your focus on a single project then your energy and thoughts remain concentrated instead of scattered by multiple projects.

Another of the biggest distractions is coworkers. One of them will often ask for your opinion or for your help with their project. This takes time and focus away from your tasks and if possible delay or avoid these time wasters. Saying “no” will help to avoid distractions. I know, it is difficult to just say no, so it may be better to tell them “As soon as I am done here” or “No, not right now”. This will give you time to finish the task at hand and by the time you finish, they may have forgotten they asked you for help or may have found a solution on their own. If not, then you can take the time to help them.

Sometimes your concentration just runs out causing all types of difficulties. You find yourself reading that paragraph for the tenth time and still don′t know what it meant, or you have been staring at the computer screen for who know how long and still don′t know what it means. Your brain is shutting down and you are becoming ineffective yet the deadline looms. Now is the time to distract yourself by getting up to get a drink, go to the restroom or take a short walk around the building, anything to get your mind off the task for a minute or so. When you return to the project you will be more effective and have lowered the stress level.

Learn some desk exercises to reduce stress. Pick up a spongy ball and squeeze it or do some stretches while at your desk. Working your muscles improves circulation and helps keep you alert and aware. Of course, you aren′t going to do a full body workout while sitting at your desk, but a little exercise can help to keep your mind focused.

Finally, take a look at your office to ensure it is comfortable for you. Are there a lot of distractions? Too much noise? Is your desk the correct height? Is everything ergonomically proper? Are you comfortable? In order to work effectively, you must be comfortable in order to avoid more stress. So, your office must be set up correctly for you. Addressing the little things in your office allows you to work more effectively, consistently and confidently.

Stress in the workplace cannot be avoided. But, proper management can minimize the stress. When the stress is managed properly, work becomes more enjoyable and you end up being more productive. Taking care of yourself and your work environment first prevents stress from controlling you.

Since organic food started to gain popularity in the late 1990s, people have been skeptical about the superiority of organics. Many people claimed that the benefits of organic over traditional products could not be proven. The truth is that there had simply not been enough testing done to prove the benefits of organic products or the drawbacks of traditionally produced food.

There have been various studies done to show the improved nutritional value of organic agriculture by analyzing the vitamin, nutrient, and mineral content of both organically and traditionally grown produce. There are significantly higher levels of various components in organic products, including:

* Chromium, prevents hardening of the arteries and type 2 diabetes * Calcium and Boron, build strong bones and prevent osteoporosis * Lithium, a common chemical in antidepressants and mood stabilizers * Salicylic acid, an anti-inflammatory which can prevent heart disease * Antioxidants, protect cells from damage * Magnesium, helps prevent death during a heart attack * Selenium, helps prevent heart disease and certain cancers * Vitamin C, builds the immune system

While this list seems rather long, its not complete. While these nutrients have been found organic produce, they arent the only ones. This list could also get longer as more research is done about the nutrient benefits of organic food.

While its important to look at the beneficial properties of organic food, we must take into account the harmful effects of traditionally grown foods to fully understand why organic food is superior. When many of the chemicals used in farming were approved, there had been little research to show whether or not these chemicals we harmful. Research has since found that most of these chemicals have negative effects on humans. Non-organic foods have been analyzed and have been found to contain harmful chemicals, heavy metals, solvents, and various hormones. Some of the conditions linked with these substances include:

* cancer * heart disease * osteoporosis * migraines * hyperactivity * decreased intelligence * impaired hearing * less growth in childhood * anemia * Alzheimers * multiple sclerosis * rheumatoid arthritis * early puberty * increase in antibiotic-resistant disease strains

Again, this list is just part of the harmful side effects of these chemicals. There are likely many more conditions to be added to this list after more research is done. Also, most of the research has been done on the affects of single chemicals, and not multiple offenders as are normally found on conventional food. While several of these chemicals have been banned, they are still present in regular and organic food. This is because they linger in the soil; some have been there for over 20 years.

While there are obviously many benefits to organic agriculture, it is not without its faults. First of all, organic products are more expensive. Depending on where you buy organic food, it could cost twice as much as regular grocery store brands. There is also concern that natural fertilizers such as plant material and manure could contain harmful organisms, such as e coli. Although this can be rare it can also make consumers very sick.

Even with the drawbacks, organic food production is proving to be much safer for consumption than other foods available. Along with the health benefits, organic agricultural practices also benefit the environment; keeping it viable for years to come.
